Behind the Screen: The Hunger Games

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

For some reason when I read the book, I got a "challenge"/"survivor" feel to it...

The Hunger Games

Here's the trailer. I'm super excited for this movie. Just from the trailer, I think it has the advantage over Twilight already. Especially in the acting field and the plot is obviously better in my opinion. It's going to be a good one, but the books are always better.

I am excited! For some reason when I read the book, I got a "challenge"/"survivor" feel to it. That's why I couldn't stop reading. I am currently on the second book. It's a very intelligent, yet exciting series. Can't Wait!

SQUEEEEEEE!!! I am so excited for this!! I'm planning on re-reading the series too before the movie comes out. I LOVE what I see so far as far as the actors/acting, and the scenery. It's a lot like what I imagined. Twilight's got NOTHING on this....

Seriously. I would rather not see *SPOILER ALERT* Bella give birth to a demon child.

Still going to see it even though I think its a caucasian ripoff of Japan's Battle Royale. In fact I like BR better but also own THG book one.

I absolutely love this trailer and the books! It makes me want to read them all over again. March 23rd cannot get here soon enough! :D On a side note: I really like what they did with Effie Trinket. She even had the Capitol accent. And Katniss volunteering for Prim gave me chills.

Hee, almost everything gave me chills!! Effie looks just as I'd imagined. This movie is going to be payback for all the teasing I did to my friends that were crazy over Harry Potter and Twilight....I just never got it. NOW, I get it! :D Also, good to see you Phoenix! It's been awhile!! :)

And OPD I agree with you there though liking THG is much better because people generally love it whereas Twilight. And HP is mostly for fangirls and nerds.

I would like to say that I'm not a crazy fangirl or a nerd. Twilight sucks, but Harry Potter is quite good. You can't really compare any of them together because they are all quite different.

That's what I am doing. I'm glad my school has them in the library :)

And may the games be ever in your favor.. <3

I fully expect all of Vevmo to have them read by the time the movie comes out. Is that asking too much? ;)

Yes! Read them, read them all! They are excellent and I couldn't put them down. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who is very anti-Twilight and has never really read or gotten into any other YA novels (other than the first Harry Potter). They are SO worth it. I even got the BF into them too, and he read all three! :) Let us know what you think.

Yes...I'm not sure every member here knows how to read.

The only thing that sucks is that Catching Fire won't come out until Nov 2013 :( that seems like an awful long time to wait. I remember the only reason I read this book was by force during my junior year of high school and my teacher was like "IT'S SOOOO GOOOD!!!!" I thought he was exaggerating but as soon as I got pasted the first chapter, I couldn't stop reading it..

I know what you mean! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. And thanks!

You won't regret it! Amazing books! :)

I don't think it is asking too much at all. It would be doing all of the members of Vevmo a huge favor. Haha ;)

after watching the trailer like a million times, and all my friends talking about it, and recommending it (especially Fab). I just bought the first book, and I'm addicted! Going to buy the next two later tonight. I can't wait for this movie!
CherryPie#20
Wow, this series looks amazing!. I don't know if I should read the book before or after watching the movie though. I know the books are always better, and I wouldn't want the film to disappoint me. But at the same time, I really want to know what happens!
gamer73#21
I debating on reading these or not, I just have never liked to read!
rwrrfan#22
I do not read books at all. I read one book for myself in my whole life and didn't even finish it. However I decided to read this book and I can tell you all that if you are debating on reading this, I would DEFINITELY read this book. I got the first one and once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I am almost done with the second book "Catching Fire" and I just don't want it to end. It has such a great story and great characters that I am sure you will enjoy the book. This is coming from someone who hates reading. After reading these books, it has changed my opinion one reading and I want to start reading more.

READ IT!

My BF read all three as well, almost as fast as I did! And he rarely reads for fun, so I think that's saying a lot about how AMAZING these books are. :D #TeamPeeta

I read all 3 books in 2 days. They were good. If I find a book I like I will read it in less than a day but there aren't many books I like. #TeamHaymitch

For what its worth if you like PG-13 watch this movie. But if you want R-rated realistic drama try Lord of The Flies and Battle Royale which are similiar to this if not better. #Katniss

This is for those who are or not interested in the hype but want some type of background information on The Hunger Games book series to determine whether or not they want to read the book and/or see the 2012 feature debut, well here you go: The Hunger Games - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Should've been studying for finals... but I read the first book over the week-end... I already knew the end because I read Wikipedia and it had spoilers (grrr), but I guess it wasn't about finishing, more about the journey. It was a really good read and I definitely recommend it. Only asterisk, I love reading, so this wasn't an issue, but if you don't like reading, some sections in part II might get boring.

Yeah I wouldn't necessarily call Wikipedia's review a "spoiler" but they are in-depth like that so I got over it. And about part 2 is it another year or is it the same game?

It is another year, but it still picks up where Book 1 left off. EDIT: I totally thought you were talking about book two, but part two of book one is the same game.
