Behind the Screen: The Real World: Back to Las Vegas - Ratings

The reality TV landscape has never been more crowded or more diverse. From dating shows to competition series to docusoaps, networks and streamers are betting big on unscripted content.

What sets the great shows apart is their ability to create genuine moments — the kind of unscripted drama that no writer's room could manufacture. That's what keeps fans coming back.

They should be posted later today... I think this season will be a huge hit! I loved the first episode and it was the #1 trending topic on Twitter along with Nany and Leroy (both had their own trending topics).

NOLA 2: 1.2 million DC - 1.9 million Cancun - 1.4 million Brooklyn - 2.3 million For the premiere episode.

Compared to recent seasons, its pretty good. Compared to what it should be, it's pretty ugly.

I expect a rise next week.
jesses_girl#13
Thanks, i think the preview at the end of the episode is gonna give it a rise next week. That was a really good premier but the thing is, they show the same fight every preview so im just wondering how long are they gonna drag it out. (at least to me it looks like all one night) It's kinda like how they showed Ty dropping Andrew for a while and it didn't come up til like the 7-8 episodes in.

I expect it to cross 2 million next week. Would love to see it get to three but it just isn't going to happen.

There really is no comparison between the shows you have mentioned and The Real World. The Real World actually does casting in an attempt to create a picture (and have drama.) Jersey Shore is sleaze, period. There is nothing endearing about that show. It is 100% cesspool. Some people like sticking their heads in urinals. That is their choice. It is our right. Thus is America. Of course, every time you watch Jersey Shore, a kitten gets dunked in a urinal.

I think people watch JS for the spectacle moreso than the cast. It will fade soon enough as they get too greedy and full of themselves (and they are getting ancient. Watching "The Situation" reminds me of how pathetic it is for a guy that age to be acting like he does.) The Real World, however, does come across a little like fan fiction crafted out of people's real lives. They have strayed from genuine storylines IMO but I am hopeful that this season may be a step in the right direction.

Well I'm happy with the ratings. I thought it was going to get passed 2.0 seeing how much it was promoted and the twitter feedback. But remember, NOLA started with 1.2 and rose to 2.0 so I can easily see that happening, especially with Adam's drama and Dustin's story.

My comparison made sense and was very valid... last time I checked they were both reality shows, documentary style and edited to one hour episodes and made for the same demographic 13-30. I think Jersey Shore and Bad Girls Club along with many other shows go to show the shift in the reality TV genre and what people want to see (constant debauchary, ignorance and fighting) .

I won't argue the difference between garbage and trash. JS is a popular show. It is ratings fact. That I can't argue, even if I was an argumentative type. The math says JS is good.

Chances are this show won't get renewed. 1.7 is terrible ratings for anyone who knows something about TV. Anything under 2-3 million are considered bad. This show flat out sucks now. It's boring to watch and it just isn't interesting anymore. I don't know if it's because I'm the same age as the people on the show & I realize I have a lot more fun, or if it's just really watered down now but the Real World's time is up. As far as television goes, Bad Girl's Club & Jersey Shore are ratings gold. They both have sass that the Real World lacks & they have entertaining characters. The Bad Girl's Club always creates a villain & a fan favorite which only draws you to watch more. The Real World drama is petty, and people love watching drama. And African Americans or Asians just aren't drawn to the Real World because they're not represented well. Every Black person I know watches BGC, and barely any watch RW. Some of my friends felt a certain way about the only black guy on the cast name being "Leroy, the garbage man".

Bad Girls Club Season 6 premiered with 1.7 million viewers also.

The Korean your friends stink if they picking at Leroy like they are. Like Black people are the only garbage men.... Anyway, I don't think the show sucks as Brooklyn, New Orleans and some episodes of DC were pretty interesting but. I hated Cancun though. It bored me.

I... don't think that's true. I'm not saying the ratings are stellar or that I know anything about ratings, but I really don't think anything under 2 million is considered bad, especially for a cable show. You simply can't compare The Jersey Shore to The Real World. Jersey Shore is a such a phenomenon that you just simply cannot make the comparison in my opinion. It's like comparing High School Musical to some other random Disney Channel movie. TRW has been on for almost 20 years, and no it's not getting the ratings it used to get but I don't think that these ratings are something to sneeze at. I mean, hell, these ratings are better than ratings that shows on network TV are pulling, well mainly the CW... But as I said, I am not pretending to be a ratings genius. I just think the Jersey Shore comparisons are a little unfair. Where are the other reality shows pulling those numbers?
SeanDaniel#28
When these reality stars go out and do their other stuff, they help MTV even if osmotically.

No, but its pretty clear that the show is staying. Jersey Shore is dying, MTV knows this, season 4 is the last season. Without Teen Mom, MTV pulls in crap ratings. They wouldn't axe a show that's this old in age and still pulling in good/decent ratings.
