Behind the Screen: Survivor 49

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

She used to do a cast assessment on rob has a podcast back in the 2010s saying everyone is ugly lol. This is just what she does, it's not this take down of the new era people think it is.

I thought I've heard her say this rant before.

If someone was real they'd go in on her because it's not hard.

Those were more like a roast, she'd make fun of them, how they look, the answers to the cast bio questions etc. I think most took it as a joke

I actually feel bad for the newer players because while they are boring nerds, they aren't any less attractive to a lot of the duds they used to cast. Survivor has always casted regular people and no one complained about ugly until we got a little more diversity.

If she goes next honestly just throw the season away.

That's not true Survivor used to cast a lot of model/actors. Even in the early days there were a lot of ordinary not pretty people. There was like one nerd on the cast. Now it's tons of nerds, tryhards, and average to below average looking people with one or two decent looking people.

35-37 were like the last gasp of the majority super good looking people on the casts.

Gabon wasn't full of models and even something like SDJS had attractive people that you could see on the street. And a lot of them didn't give anything either.

I also never thought people like JT and Jeremiah were attractive. The Desis and Brendas were who stood out to me. A lot of those people were just white tbh.

Especially really old school Survivor, a lot of them were below average joes

Yeah, but you have a negative, hateful mindset so your opinion doesn't match the masses. Put the new era against any era in terms of looks and 99/100 of people choose the new era as the ugliest.

And the new era is also more racially diverse. So if you're faux-progressive butt actually thought critically you might figure out why that is

GoldenRing#161

Saying I got a negative, hateful mindset because I think we should STOP calling people ugly is crazy.

Mind you OldStraggot try to diss women like Moriah and Blue's looks when he couldn't bag them on his best day. Dumb fruitfly.

Casting ugly white nerds has nothing to do with the diversity initiative. You are trying too hard and you look stupid and not like the social justice warrior you are so inauthentically trying to be.

Crying about people being called ugly as you call me ugly lololol. I don't call women ugly. I call elective surgeries ugly and bedazzled teeth ugly. Just cause Blue and Moriah aren't my type doesn't mean I think they are ugly. And they aren't my type so I'm losing zero sleep that they wouldn't give me the time of day, ijbol. You've said women aren't attractive or your type, you don't get on your anti-ugly speech soapbox when they attack my looks and I'm not even an ug. The fake act is so funny and like just say you are ugly and triggered. Keep it real.

Sportsman180#164

Moriah was a dime until she chopped half her nose off.

I'm not trying too hard, but it's a little disingenuous to pretend that white people are the main ones getting hit when these casts get called ugly collectively. Because there's no singling out, it's the cast as a whole, so when half of them are minorities, it does come across as a diss towards them. Intent and execution often do not align.

No one was calling the show ugly when Cochran was on it.  Look at Gabon or Boreno, they weren't gagging fecal either, and I'd argue the past few seasons collectively look better than those.

And, a legitimate question, what seasons would you bring up if you wanted to talk about overall beauty amongst a Survivor cast?

Even if you didn't use the word "ugly" you kept trying to shade Blue's looks when we said she was a pretty girl. And, you're right, you do talk about Moriah's surgery a lot, but I've seen you admit to having nose job , so you doing that is very crazy. Even though I hate the nose trend she participated in, she's not ugly. You being shady towards women you know damn well wouldn't look at you twice is crazy to me idc. They don't need to be your type, but you get defensive when people call them attractive, which is the point I'm making.

And, I have called plenty of people on here ugly. Ashley and Olivia do not look like Moriah and Blue, and while it's all subjective anyone who got a problem with me calling a spade a spade can kiss my butt, you're free to feel the same. But, the reality is we all talk too much shit we may or may not be able to back up.

OS Kajun#167

I'm not calling Big Brother uglier than ever. In fact we've had some of the most attractive people since the diversity initiative. No one is saying every single season of Survivor was sexy before the new era. You are proving my point that that no one called it ugly when we had Cochran cause he was the outlier. Now a pretty person is the outlier and nerds make up the majority. The new era is uglier as a whole, anyone with eyes can verify that.

GoldenRing#168

I've actually been looking at the past seven seasons of Survivor's casts, and I genuinely don't see that big of a difference in looks, outside of it being more diverse.

I feel like people conflate these casts being more socially inept and nerdy as "ugly" in a physical sense. And, even in Cochran's case, South Pacific was not giving all that looks-wise either; there's not much difference between now and then, I just think it's an implicit bias and I've had this thought for a minute.

Literally cried we should call people ugly then says he calls people ugly, ijbol. This idiot. You are becoming KVM level unhinged. I didn't shade Blue's looks. I said her bedazzled teeth were stupid and her hair was stupid on BB25. Again, she's not my type but I don't think she is ugly. I can see why people think she's pretty. I wouldn't look twice her way, so why would I care if she wouldn't look twice at me? Lololol. That's not eating the way you think lolololol. I had a deviated septum fixed, I joke about it being a nose job. I'm also not anti-plastic surgery at all. Some get work done and look great, but most go too far and look like a futurama character. Ashley to me is 100x hotter than Moriah and 50x hotter than Blue. It's all subjective and opinion. Except the new era of Survivor, it's objectively uglier.

It's nothing but the fact the cast got uglier. Shemar, Whitney, Keith, Elyse, Mikayla, Albert were all very attractive. Edna, Christine, and Queen Stacey weren't unattractive for older people. Sophie and Cochran were the only unattractive, now it's all Sophie and Cohrans with a couple decent looking people.

GoldenRing#171

Looks are inherently subjective, so it can't be objectively uglier, especially when you stated no one cast is collectively attractive. You'd have to base your opinion on a select few; thus, the same would have to apply to whatever cast you're calling ugly.

I'm not crying about anything, dummy. I brought up the way you spoke about them because you said you never called women ugly. The way you spoke about Blue and Moriah was basically the same , being overly critical to put them down, especially since this occurred when others were calling them attractive. Idc who y'all call ugly, but you pretending you haven't done it was the problem.

All of those you could find sandwiched somewhere in a cast now, and they look like normal people for the most part.

Elyse is the only one I think has the "bombshell" look. And, ultimately, I think some people are thinking of the select few "stunners" we'd use to get, but that list is also very white and I'd disagree with a lot.

No, no you decided to engage in this convo. Stop arguing with me if you're going to keep disengaging when I say something you can't refute.

Sportsman180#175

I personally don't think there's been an "uglification" of the New Era. I think most seasons now and then had/have around 2 (~10%) ugly people.

BUT, I think the amount of normies has gone from 50% to 80% and the amount of literal supermodels has gone from 30% down to less than 10%.

And, I think this makes more sense. And that doesn't personally bother me. Doesn't matter what these people look like; they need more interesting personalities.
