Behind the Screen: Love Island (USA) - Peacock

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

18-29? Can they let people under 21 drink if they film out of the US?

Survivor has been avoiding it. I remember a few seasons ago on Millenials vs Gen X they wouldn't let Will drink because he was only 18. I also just don't want to see an 18 year old date a 29 year old. Hopefully they don't cast anyone under 21

Even if a 29 year old & 18 year old got together, they'd probably get little to no support by the fanbase, and probably not make it too far

For survivor, since it's an American show, they gotta follow US laws even outside of the country. I'd assume this works the same way since it's CBS still.

I thought they said legally Will could drink but it would be a bad look for the show.

I’m watching the UK version and I find it rather boring. Is there an episode for every day? I feel like it would be a lot better edited into two episodes a week.

Legally he could, but they wouldn't let baylor natalie t or Micheal drink either. It's in the contract that they follow US laws, so legally they have the option but the contract prevents it.

Which season are you watching? I heard the first 2 seasons aren't good & that I should skip them. I havent watch any yet.

I went right for season 3 because Georgia and Theo were on it, I'm enjoying it but I knew what I was getting into with a 50 episode season and could understand if anyone did get a little bored by it

yeah it’s an episode each day, that’s why it’s boring but after you get past the first 7 or 8 episodes, it most likely will pick up depending on which season you’re on. I prefer starting with season 3

50 episodes? No ******* thanks, how do people stay interested? I thought British shows were normally short

BBUK always had an episode every day too, so most seasons were 70+ episodes long.  BBUK9 and BBUK10 were the longest with 108 episodes each lol.

Watching the UK verison and its really good. Hopefully CBS can pull this off but knowing them they'd be casting white boring people.

oh this is 100% gonna be another bachelor in paradise

nevidcm#45

this is such a weird fit for CBS, i would be surprised if it did ‘t completely bomb

How dare they cast white people? Who knew everyone that wasnt white was entertaining? ***cough***Leroy***cough***

Maybe they are going to do a similar format like Big Brother? or something competion wise to make is different. but sure how it would work.

ShellYeah#48

I hope this doesn't bomb. UK version is great!

And the same people who cast BB are casting this as well. So be ready for your stereotypical bland characters they love to cast. It’s allegedly supposed to air 5 nights a week with BB’s 3 nights.

Lol the salt.....

I am interested in this, but I have no desire to watch a show 5 nights a week....

yeah keeping up with BB already feels like a chore so idk if i’ll watch it

ShellYeah#53

Fingers crossed this is as good as the UK version! I personally loved it

lustblvd#54

it should be interesting if they cast people with any actual personality. if it’s full of bachelor-esque type of snooze personalities, they can KEEP it. i really like the UK one since a lot of them have very loud personalities

amazing casting and an even better narrator are the key to the uk version’s success. I’m not really expecting this version to have either

lustblvd#57

I personally think it would be more interesting if instead of creating a whole American-based Love Island, they allowed the casting pool for the UK version to be broadened with US contestants and have that be aired in both countries.

AshKelseyFan#58

Premieres July 9th at 8/7c. Airing 5 nights a week (Monday to Friday).

Finale on August 7, so only 30 days long.

I hope this good i doubt it tops the UK version which is lackluster at times but i hope to be shocked

Amanda Garcia#61

Season 3 UK and Australian Love Island were good. The cast for the US one looks like the typical bachelor cast.

Because it’s the first season the upside is that people won’t know how to play the game and thus more willing to ditch their partners/being messy in general. In the UK version rn people are coupling up and having a squeaky clean image as possible.
