Behind the Screen: Real World: Tonya Cooley - Sues MTV For Alleged Assault

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

Real World: Tonya Cooley - Sues MTV For Alleged Assault

GivingTree ·

Oh no....:weep:

A cast member on MTV's "The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Ruins" claims male members acted like animals during production, in one case raping her with a toothbrush ... this according to a new lawsuit obtained by TMZ. Tonya Cooley filed the suit against MTV, Bunim/Murray Productions, Kenneth Santucci, Evan Starkman and others ... claiming the two guys "took another male participant's toothbrush and rubbed the toothbrush around plaintiff's genitals"

Unlike the Johnny Bananas lawsuit, I am hoping she wins. As broken as she seems sometimes, she has greater credibility with me than some of the others. There was definitely something unshown and unexplained that went down in that house that lead to her absolute erratic behavior.

Can't wait to hear cast member reactions to this....especially Kenny and Evans. Could this sort of thing hurt the actual show in terms of future challenges??

I suspect Kenny and Evan will keep their mouths shut. If this is proven true, it will either end the show or finally force them to clean up the cast list and set situations IMO.

This is said and it said others so Im sure Johnny maybe Derrick and whoever hangout with them on there down time.

I'd have a hard time believing he was involved. I don't like him much but I'd guess him no but Johnny yes.

Derrick is too good of friends with Tonya to do something like this. I am not sure if it is true but it wouldn't surprise me if Evan and Kenny did this.

So is this also why Kimberly doesn't want to do another challenge? Because I kept hearing she won't do another one due to a bad experience on The Ruins and I never heard why, so I guess this is why because production would encourage the drunk guy cast members to take advantage of the other drunk girl cast members.

The worst part is Tonya said production planted the toothbrush, smh This new challenge should have an interesting turn out.

Maybe this is what Veronica was talking about when she brought up the subject to her before getting smacked. That would indicate Johnny, Evan, and Kenny rushing to her side to defend Tonya and say Veronica was "out of line". If this is true or if she wins, The Challenge is probably over.

I don't think Derrick would have anything to do with that. I also feel Kenny wouldn't either. He would definitely bully but taking it that far is only something I can see Evan and Johnny doing.

Me thinks this might turn out to be the final nail in the coffin for the challenges. Especially if it really is true.

It made me sick to my stomach reading that. I hope justice prevails and those guys get what they deserve.

My question about this whole thing would be, if it does wind up being true, why are so many of the female challengers friend with them? Including people from that era. If I were a girl hearing that they potentially did what they did, true or not, would make me distance myself from them...

If they are guilty of it. Never assume guilt.

Well yeah, obviously. I just don't like questioning any time a person claims to have been sexually assaulted. This isn't a joke, and for some reason I don't believe that Tonya would make this up for no good reason :/

Since this happened outside the US, I suspect going after BMP is about the limits of what can be done. Wasn't that season filmed in Thailand, Capitol of the Child-Sex World?

I think she has a reputation for being unstable so if they didn't see it, it's a good chance they won't/don't believe her.

Damn, that sucks if its legit As if I already didn't like Kenny/Evan enough. Trash.

For me the reason is that she has been around a long time under very bad circumstances before and has never made a claim like this or blamed others for her acts without taking blame onto herself too.

I would also think that since the Ruins was filmed in around spring 2009 that there wouldn't be much solid evidence even if it did happen unless BMP actually had tapes. Seems a little strange that she waited 2+ years unless she was recently informed by someone in production or another cast member.

Article didn't say when she filed the suit. There could have been some attempted settlement for awhile and a statute of limitations issue to deal with where she was forced to file or lose her claim just like with car wrecks.

I 100% believe her. We've been hearing about how much shady stuff went down on The Ruins from before we even saw the first trailer. Tonya may be a mess at times, but I honestly don't think she would do something like this to Kenny and Evan if it were a lie. I'm disgusted...
RubenJay05#27
If this were to go to court, would they contact cast members to testify? And if they did, would they be allowed to decline or would they HAVE to take the stand?

I completely agree. I mean we saw Johnny finger Adam's ******* in one of the challenges. This sounds exactly like something they would do. I really hope Tonya wins. More power to her.
Blue123#29
Ok ew I just read that story, I always thought Kenny and Evan were jerks and that they would make fun of people and they bullied Tonya a lot but that's a little extreme. I hope for everyone's sake that it's not true like that's ******* disgusting. And if they did do it then they're ******* pigs, that's too far.
InfamousJoks#30
Poor Tonya... I wholeheartedly believe her. I've NEVER liked Evan or Kenny. This is bigger than them just not being able to go on future challenges, I hope they get what they deserve.

If they were under subpoena they would have to show up. Unless they pleaded the 5th, they'd have to testify. I am sure the proof will be in video footage somewhere even if its just conversations and giggles.
