I think he does too, he even set up a prom for her since she was missing her real one. How cute is that? I don't even think she notices him at all :)

SpoilerChuck and Julianne...Melissa and Tony were in the bottom 2.

Wow, I am surprised at who was in the bottom two, but I expected it. My money is on Lil'Kim!
OtherPplsDrama#171
Wow surprising for the one couple!! How is Lil Kim beating that?! Well at least the right people went home.

The last 2 left standing are not the bottom 2, there is a bottom one, but they switch it up so that no one knows where they have been placed by the public. They kept Melissa for last because of her injury and to "shock" people. I truly felt bad for her and her partner Tony. He is an amazing dancer, and has never won. I hope he gets that chance this year!

Melissa and Tony were only in the last two pairs not named as safe in the final minutes of last night's show. Even with their low score from Monday night, fan votes had them well above the lowest two. Even though Lil Kim was at the top of the judge's leader board, her fan base is somewhat limited and she was not at the top in fan voting. Shawn is consistently at the top of fan voting, which is probably a good indication that this show is only partly about ballroom dance.

OK thanks V and LM, I didn't realize the last two weren't actually the bottom two. And yes aside from judges scores I would think Melissa is the fan favorite and gets tons of votes.

She is by some, but there are those out there who think she is not a star and therefore should not even be on the show. It has also been speculated that ABC put her on to avoid a potential law suit ;)

My opinion for those people would be that Shawn is no more of a star than Melissa. This is Melissa's third reality show, since she did DCC for two seasons and The Bachelor. Holly may be more well known to some than Melissa, but their time on tv has been about the same. You just have to watch the right shows. :) Maybe I'm just protective of Melissa since she's been a favorite of mine since DCC. :)

Yeah, those Olympic medals probably don't mean a thing... While both are recognizable, I would argue that more people know Shawn Johnson than Melissa Rycroft. Shawn has made hundreds of appearances.

My point was to say Shawn is no more of a "star" in terms of what many people define a "star" as: having some type of music, movie, or tv career. Shawn is definitely an awesome athlete, but before August I had never heard of her. Melissa could be to many people as race car drivers are to me. I had no idea who whats his face was who won awhile back and is now in legal trouble I think. That doesn't mean he's not a "star."

Obviously we are in completely different realms. I knew who Shawn Johnson was before the Olympics but had no idea who Melissa was before The Bachelor. I'm also more familiar with those in the sports world (like Helio Castroneves) than it seems you are. I hardly consider Melissa to have had a "career" in television...I think all of the remaining stars have been more successful. I'm not saying Melissa isn't successful, but I find it hard to believe that she has built the same success as her competitors in their individual realms. When you put her up against an Olympic champion, a world-class rodeo champion, and one of the most successful female rap artists, she doesn't match up. To put it bluntly, I think the only reason she is who she is is because she got royally screwed by a ******* on national television.

The lawsuit speculation is unfounded. Melissa had no reason to sue the producers or ABC and she had a very excellent team providing advice to her to ensure she stayed within her contract. Fleiss and Co. did abuse her, in my opinion, but within the contract she signed, it was arguably within their rights. She just didn't own them another show (ATFR #2) without additional major compensation. I love those people who want to define "star" for us... Well, "love" is too kind a word, actually. They are out of touch with the fact that stardom is really defined as a connection one makes with the audience. About three years ago I had parked my car in one of the public garages along Cannon Dr in Beverly Hills and was walking to meet Beth at a salon on the north end of the street when I saw her outside the salon with a group of about 8 people around her. Standing at the stop light next to me was actor/comic Paul Rodriguez. He noted that I, like him, was watching this spectacle across the street. He asked me "Is that Beth from the Real World?" I said yes, and that I was about 10 minutes late in meeting her for lunch. He commented that she had real star quality because lots of people love her and a whole bunch hate her character. I recall looking at him with probably an odd expression on my face and he laughed and said something like this: "This is Beverly Hills, the star capitol of the world. I can walk down the street here and people will say Hi or just avoid you because they are cool. She is a star because she is one of them. That is a quality no Hollywood actor can ever have." We walked across the street and I introduced him to Beth. A very decent dude. Melissa has the same qualities and Beth and many other decent reality people.

...touché. That's a very good point...I guess I define being a "star" by success, since they're generally the most publicized, but there are many different types of stars that are publicized, but hardly for success...
