Behind the Screen: Survivor: Worlds Apart - Bring the Popcorn

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

That's why I love mama C, she doesn't **** around, she didn't hesitate to put it back.

I thought this episode wasn't bad.

I enjoyed the auction house with Mike trying to outwardly get that advantage, even though it put a huge target on his back. I really loved how Carolyn was willing to trade in her letter so she wouldn't let Mike get it. #StillaQueen

Will was such a **** to Shirin, and I was glad that Shirin raised her hand and denied him his letters. And speaking of Shirin... she's been getting a good merge edit. Much less annoying these past few episodes IMO.

I wasn't all that disappointed when Mike won immunity, because I kind of liked him this episode it made tribal a little less predictable, for me at least. I was kind of surprised though with how the votes ended up. You'd think everyone outside the core 4 would try to break that. Maybe they thought that Sierra/Dan wouldn't go along with it?

Challenge 17#35

All the guys left suck tbh. Rodney is okay at times and I don't have a opinion on irrelevant Tyler. But the rest just suck.

Challenge 17#36

I'm sad that Jenn is gone but at the same time, this is where the game gets interesting. There isn't much room to hide anymore , it's the final 8, this is the point in the game where big moves happen. I hope they can get rid of Mike.

Anyone else see Shirins tweet?
"For every act of misogyny this season I will donate $100 to the National Network to End Domestic Violence. Relying on fans to help me count."
I hope she won or else she's gonna be broke lol.

I don't get what the issue is here, unless you're responding to a potential Shirin win?

WTF? Really? I swear I thought he was in his sixties.

I thought he was in his late sixties - I remember a couple of episodes back Dan was like "Mike I'm twice your age I have more experience talking to women". Like wtf how old do you think Mike is he's definitely not in his twenties and if you're twice his age youre in retirement already dude.

Fresh Meat#46

I realize Dan is a ******, but he didn't look in his 60s at all, at least not to me. 47 sounds about right imo

Lol Tyler was a placeKicker and even played in some pre season NFL have they even brought this up in the show?

Yes I remember them never mentioning it in voice but I remember them having it in words next to his title card name.

Worst season ever. Ok not the worst, but bottom 5 easily. There's just no one left to root for. Tbh I kinda want Tyler to win now but we all know that's not happening.

You guys need to stop with this. No, but really Mike, Shirin, and Rodney are the only potential winners. Everyone else hasn't gotten nearly enough screentime.

The only likeable ones IMO are Tyler, Sierra and Carolyn and all three of them have been invisible since the merge. It's annoying seeing this people talking about how they're gonna flip the game and then do nothing come tribal.

The show isn't about who is likable...this is a game.

Joe & Jenn needed to go for literally everyone.  Why would they have flipped it?

People on the show need to be likable and have some redeeming qualities in order for people to care and get invested in the game..This is reality show. Personalities matter and that's never going to change. I'm not going to care if someone is a good player/competitor if they're a piece of shit/boring as hell and I'm not alone in that.

Typically likable people win though, like I don't think they'd show the winner being outwardly sexist, etc.

I agree, to look at Survivor as just a game is way too simplistic or broad imo.

Its funny how people say this season is boring and unwatchable when the last episode got more viewers than any of Cagayan.

This is the same bullshit argument bring up for The Challenge...

Ratings =/= Quality

The challenge is different , MTV is struggling that's why the ratings for seasons like exes 2 is bad.
Is this season the best no, but people are overreacting because in there minds nothing will ever be as good as cagayan. The same thing happened last season everyone was saying how boring it was and it sucked.
Fresh Meat#56

I agree that people exaggerate on how this season hasn't lived up to the hype, but Cagayan also got extremely good numbers so it's definitely not like their numbers tanked there. I think Cagayan was when they began to beat Idol in ratings actually. I believe since Cagayan, the ratings have done very well and hence, the back to back newbie casts.

Bacchus#57

For me, this season was unwatchable. I deleted the episodes sitting on my DVR, canceled the timer and moved on to other shows. I've watched every Survivor season since 2000 and this is easily the worst season thus far. That's saying a lot as the series has had some dark times.

There was no point in me continuing as I did not like a single person, not even a little bit. On every other season, there was at least some reason to continue, even if it was a forgone conclusion who was going to win.  This season did not have such redemption.  When almost an entire episode early on was devoted to who was the most annoying person in the tribe,  I knew watching this season was going to be a struggle. Especially being I thought all of them were good candidates.

Sadly, if Worlds Apart is improving ratings, they'll just keep doing more of the same with casting and style (e.g. annoying people, crazy people, genuine ********, entitled children). The Real World went from an actual reality series to a Bad Girls Club fauxality shit show in a mere two seasons. Let's hope the same doesn't happen to Survivor.

Preach, B.

This season is truly god awful.

GDInstall#59

Bac can I ask you if Jeff Probst got you all hyped pre season? Or didn't you care about it?
I still think all the hype Jeff did with this season hurt the overall view of the season. I mean I don't think the season is the worst, just for the simple fact that IMO the winner wasn't obvious after the first three episode or a single front runner of spotlight. The season did have an unpredictability to it and I will watch till the end to see if Mike/Shirin can outlast the main 4 and what Dan/Sierra will do in the end.

Fresh Meat#60

Redemption Island, South Pacific, One World, Caramoan, Cook Islands, Samoa: all far worse than Worlds Apart. Season is far from perfect, but to say it's the absolute worst is overreacting after having three very good previous Seasons. This season is keeping me hooked, just on Shirin's story alone.

There is lots of interpersonal drama, so I can understand why Jeff hyped the season.  Besdies, it's his job to hype.

I just think he miscalculated as to how absolutely unlikable most of the cast would be and that interpersonal drama is only interesting when you care about one of the sides involved.

The big difference between this season and previous seasons is that I stopped watching this one. Yes, it was so bad I could not force myself to watch. That squarely puts Worlds Apart at the bottom in my book.

Hoping they all lose is unfortunately not a possible Survivor outcome...

This season is keeping me hooked, just on Shirin's story alone.

The tribe chose wrongly. Shirin "monkey sex"  Okooi is actually way more annoying than Max - planters wart and all.
