Behind the Screen: Survivor 42 - Episode Discussion

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

A recap I read on another forum.

" according to him, drea was actively trying to turn everyone against him at ponderosa by making up lies that his prayer sessions were fake so that he could have time to sneak away to strategize, and that he used his prayer to exploit production into finding out the time of day so that he could have an edge over other contestants as far as knowing when TC would be so that he could scramble and manage his time more effectively. she apparently also accused him of targeting people of color to protect lindsey/jonathan. omar and hai had bonded on a personal level about omar's father's passing, but drea apparently also attempted to make omar look bad by saying that they had the exact same conversation (omar claims they did not have a conversation about it and that all she knew was that his dad was deceased) and that he was using it as a ploy to manipulate people. she also apparently told everyone that she had opened up to him about her knowledge-is-power advantage the day after the rocks/tori boots because they were bonding over race after the previous night's tc and were discussing serious issues outside of the game. he says she referred to it as a "moment of weakness" and told him about the advantage then, went on to tell other jurors the same thing for months after the game, which was disproven once the show aired and it was revealed that she had actually told him about the advantage days later. he says he thinks she was embarrassed by her elimination, that she seemed very sure she was going to win, and that she wanted to make sure he didn't win once she was on the jury. he is very clearly still hurt about it and had a pretty miserable time at ponderosa."

Can confirm all of this since I listened to the original podcast. Crazy to hear all this and then also see Drea becoming friends with Johnathan... doesn't seem like either are friends with the rest of the group

yes, I am just so confused. And I'm also wondering what happened to make him edit the podcast

I'm assuming it had to do with lawyers... whether it was on Drea's or CBS's end...

That's definitely disappointing to hear especially with how graceful she went out. I'm hoping she was just still focused in game mode and hurt. I hope she hears how he felt and apologizes. I love Drea and hope this isn't her true character and that we see her again in some form. Also, this is why we need reunions.

flyguy#488

Has anyone else been keeping up with the Drea/Omar/RHAP stuff?

Yes, I was shocked! I listened to the podcast before it was edited, and I feel like CBS asked them to take it down and remove the Ponderosa parts?

I also feel like maybe this drama is the reason there was no Ponderosa videos this season, to not put this drama on blast...

ikr, like this is so messy. I would not expect this from a show like survivor. And I don't remember where I read this but I read somewhere that the reason there was no ponderosa this season is that shan had a problem with the ponderosa production crew last season so they decided to take a season off from it to re evaluate

shan debunked this on twitter btw

Drea has said on Twitter that it's "not true" and then immediately deleted her tweets... not sure where she is planning on going with this but I don't think an apology is coming

Yeah forgot where she said it but she said someone on her cast had an issue with production but it wasn't her.

So I just finished up this season and avoided coming here due to spoilers, but I would like to know how did everyone else here feel about this season?

anon12423452355...#494

I hated every twist but this was a top tier cast that was able to jump out of the grave that Probst put this show in. Maryanne was such a satisfying winner. Drea and Tori were iconic. It was a steller season.

I liked it as well. I feel like they had a lot of serious game players this season. I almost paused the show during the Drea/Maryanne tribal and come here to see what everyone was saying when it aired but I didn't want to risk seeing the winner lol. But that episode was top tier for me.

Luckily I don't think this thread comes with spoilers I think there's only one survivor spoilers thread. I'm not huge on this season even though it's not terrible but until they change location/format every season it will never be like survivor should have been

it would've been spoilers for me since I just now watched it

To ketch you up on the tea. Post season Drea won the Sia award it was like 40k or sumn like that. Then Omar's closested *** threw shade at her and basically said she bullied him at ponderosa. Maryannes raccoon *** teamed up with Omar on the Drea accusations. The whole fandom turned on Drea who refused to address the drama and proceeded to post cute selfies with Jonathan.

I haven't kept up since then. 42 was fine but I low-key didn't like most people at the merge they were almost all unlikable or annoying to me.

Connor91#499

Admittedly I hate it that there's instant spoilers like I clicked the thread expecting to see views of the previous week and the first post was who went home this week. As much as it's a day to day survivor thread i feel like we should leave names out etc at least till like a day after airing. I already knew who was going because the first post of the week told me rather than talking about the game - which I was hoping to discuss for the wk yknow
