I was told this actually was kind of wild when they filmed it & Frankie Muniz hinted that there were some altercations that got physical

This is actually pretty standard for Surreal Life. a pretty good cast all things considered. i even vaguely remember the makeup guy from that era of Youtube where all the drama from that community was on the popular page.
