Behind the Screen: Streaming Giants - General Discussion

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

I had low expectations for "School Spirits" on Paramount but I have to say, I think its one of the better shows on there. Cant wait for season 2!

Tvandcoffee#1835
lmao why tf did they put this show on dvd? Paramount plus is struggling but they waste money to put a show on dvd that from the few people who watched it, all seemed to dislike it.

I actually think this is a good thing since it's getting removed entirely from the platform.

The issue with the streaming era is shows don't have time to settle and find an audience. Maybe not a Grease prequel would've been a sleeper hit, but plenty of shows gather audiences after a first season.

And when (HBO) Max was pulling shows off the app, many of them couldn't be found elsewhere.

The later seasons of Infinity Train, Generation, etc.

At least a DVD release (which I doubt will be a lot on the market anyway) allows for the few bit of fans left to keep the show enterally. And, this might be a way to avoid paying residuals.

Tvandcoffee#1837

I do agree with them not giving shows enough time to find their audience, but I still think this was a dumb move on their part.

it costs money to put out on dvd, and from every ad Ive seen on this show, everyone in the comments said it was horrible. Since Paramount is reportedly struggling financially, it would make sense to only do dvd releases for their big shows like yellowstone. Plus not many people buy dvds anyways, so it seems silly to do it for a show that doesn't seem to have much of a fan base.

TwoStrikes#1838

the worst part about grease being pulled is that they were nominated for awards..... and there's nowhere to watch it for the people who haven't seen it that want to bc of the awards it was nominated for

Peacock is currently Top 5 in the streaming game and will be operating on a 3 Billion in loss for NBC.

Imagine how much money Paraflop + is bleeding CBS for when its significantly less relevant than Peacock
Tvandcoffee#1840

Peacock sucksss too so that says alot.

I  wonder how many viewers were lost when the free peacock with xfinity deal stopped. I think some people still have it for a certain amount of time because it depends on when they first joined, but mine is expired. Aint no way I'm paying to watch peacocks content. I'm watching my shows pirated lmaooo

timster3#1841

Quit lying TV. I open Peacock more than any other app. It's so underrated and CHEAP. I don't even open Hulu anymore, I always hated Netflix, cancelled Disney, and Paramount feeds me my top reality shows.

timster3#1842

Does someone want to make a thread for Fight for Survival tv show coming out on CW+ Roku? Preview came out today. Missy from Survivor 39, the first boot from Survivor 36, and Libby from Survivor 36 + 15 random Survivalists from other tv shows or social media are competing on what looks like a cross between Survivor and The Challenge. Missy headbutts someone in the trailer SKSKS. That alone has me perched.

I would pirate but I like to watch HD on my firestick and I remember having to redownload the firestick program every couple months and it took forever and was very annoying to deal with. Now i'm doing the right thing by paying these billion dollar corps for their product!

nopeeee!!! My cheap *** aint paying for a subscription when it was given to me for free w/my cable for 3 years lmao. Honestly nothing is really on anything nowadays but the things I do watch are on cable and hulu, some prime. The only shows on Peacock I like are Traitors, Love Island,  Based on a True Story, and Belair, but I don't like any of them enough to pay for them lmao. I also find the app extremely frustrating and glitchy so **** em, they don't deserve my money.

If they were THAT serious I'd be a Blu-Ray release. I could see Yellowstone getting one.

But yeah it is nominated for awards so maybe that played a part.

I do think this is overdue for streaming shows. Media shouldn't just disappear, especially in this day and age.

Tvandcoffee#1846

You're absolutely right. I do admit I'm one of the few people out there that still buys Dvds on rare occasion but thats for the shows I like the most that Im scared I wont be able to watch through a streamer at some point.

Tvandcoffee#1847

Thoughts on whether they should just cancel Euphoria? Show isnt scheduled to come back until 2026, with the story doing a flashforward. With the long gap and losing Angus (RIP), I just think they should end it. The only storyline left that I would care about the ending is Rue with the briefcase. I am devasted because the storyline I was invested in was Lexi and Fez I am straight on watching nate/cassie toxicity.

anon12423452355...#1848

These streaming services need to merge and charge a little bit more.

TwoStrikes#1849

no they don't, let me have my paramount+, disney, and hulu for free, and my apple tv for $4

2026?!? why the **** is there a 4 year gap between s2 and s3 smh

Tvandcoffee#1851

Originally it was already pushed back to 2024 because the cast had other gigs (namely zendaya), then pushed again to 2025. With the writers strike, they pushed it back to 2026. We had to wait for s2 because of covid but even that wasnt as long of a wait. 3 seasons in 7 years is crazy.

fez's character was supossed to be killed off in season 1, and again in season 2 (they did ashtray instead). I guess they easily just kill him off when season 3 (eventually) airs. But very sad, I know he was many peoples favorite character.

FromTheNorth#1852

Euphoria is not a good enough show to wait 4 years for. It was one thing when it was top shows like Game of Thrones & Stranger Things taking close to two years, and obviously covid couldn't be helped, but shows that frankly aren't that good need to be on every year if they want to keep an audience. If Zendaya's too busy to do tv she shouldn't be on tv

Tvandcoffee#1853

Agreed, theres a reason why alot of shows dont let their cast have other commitments because those commitments end up taking precendence over the tv show.

TwoStrikes#1854

fez was one of the best characters and i wanted more of his storyline. i forget how season 2 ended... i know ashtray died but what about fez? did he get taken away? is there a way they could easily kill him off based on how s2 ended?

yes because he got shot in his stomach, and then was taken out in handcuffs. Since its a flash forward whenever it comes back, they could easily mention that fez died from the gunshot wound. It definitely wouldnt do the character justice though.. the way I mourn what him and Lexi couldve been

AshtonMartin#1856

Just noticed War of the Worlds-Total Madness aren't on Paramount is that because of Bear?

Sorry if im late lol

Tvandcoffee#1857

Im not sure what thread to put this in but regarding paramount +

I noticed one of their original shows is on netflix now. When it aired on paramount, it got no traction. Its been #4 on netflix since at least friday.

Also when paramount launched, the good fight (spinoff from the good wife) was the very first scripted show they launched on cbs all access (now paramount+). They announced another spinoff from that (elsbeth) which interestingly enough is airing on cbs in Feb. Now Idk if thats because they lack scripted programming come the new year due to the strike or if thats a reflection on how paramount plus is doing...

Well they cancelled Pink Ladies the Grease spin off for some odd reason so they have scripted shows but they are cancelling them like Netflix it seems.

They need to stop casting old people on reality tv competion shows most the time they don't provide and are invisible most the season and when they get voted out.

This is the dumbest thing ever. Most oldies PROVIDE cause they don't care about social media numbers and clout. They don't hold back and overproduce themselves to try and impress Twitter and secure selling ďíłdos and weight loss pills on Instagram. The right oldies just need to be cast and they will DELIVER.
