Behind the Screen: The Shannara Chronicles - MTV

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

This is Eye Candy all over again. Bad ratings for a show that received tons of promotion, and with the budget I don't see it surviving another season. Shame because it looked good, but it bombed as expected.

So this got a million bascially? Well at least it didn't flop like Eye Candy did.

But as been said before..this show looks expensive so I'm not sure if those numbers justify this show going on.

Finally watched the premiere, and I loved it. The acting is shaky at times, but much more tolerable than Scream's.

Poppy Drayton is a ******* goddess. So unbelievably gorgeous.

The changes from the book are blatantly clear, but I feel like they worked for the most part, give or take. One change I enjoyed was how the chosen were, well, chosen. That opener was definitely a much more action-packed start that draws you in and gets you invested.

Also, I'm very pleased to say that it looks like the ending will remain intact.

When you take out all the factor, this did good by MTV standards, probably the highest rated show after Teen Mom, but I don't think MTV is too happy. I went to NY last week, and literally everywhere there were posters for Shannara, and they've been promoting this since like early november (if not earlier), and not only on MTV.

Also, the show had a multi-network premiere, but when you factor in those other ratings, it only ticks up to a 0.6 in the demo.

I'm hoping this grows because this is the best scripted show they had thrown out there since I can remember. If not, they honestly should just stick to reality tv.

just finished the first 4 episodes... pretty decent! the pace is moving along nicely. I can pretty much map out the rest of the season though, and I don't even know the books lol... I hope i'm proven wrong

What's your thought?

I haven't looked up last night's ratings, but MTV released a press statement about the premiere. On all platforms it was watched by over 7.5 million viewers, slaying all expectations.

nevidcm#74

The second episode got a 0.4 in the demo and 0.92 million viewers.

Not great, but not horrible.

I was expecting less considering the episodes for this week and next were already released online.

Apparently MTV is satisfied, there's whispers of a renewal.

Which show the sad state of the network, but the show deserves it so I'm happy. Even Teen Wolf which used to be a solid hit for them is underperforming.

PinkRose#77

Thats good for MTV standards right now.

I see a second sesson.

PinkRose#78

Teen mom didnt lose that much viewers from episode 1 to the second one this week.

PinkRose#79

Ratings for this show keep goong down, for the amount of promotion this got I didnt expect these numbers

Teen mom is still standing strong hetting atpund 2 million viewers

What do you expect, Teen Wolf is getting dumber and dumber.

WittyWrath#81

I'd be shocked at a renewal though due to production costs especially when the reality shows which cheaper to produce are doing better in ratings.

anon4981298798#82

Episodes 3 and 4 were released online the night of the season premiere. A drop was expected.

yeah i watched them when they were released online two weeks ago... haven't bothered to watch them live again. Not sure what the purpose of releasing them early was... but i feel like ratings wont change around for the 5th episode. I'll watch it though, it's entertaining enough

anon4981298798#84

I just realized the season finale is this week and I've only watched episodes one and two. Lol

Apparently it's getting renewed. Even though live viewer ratings are just as bad as everything else on MTV, non-live viewership has been huge. And the show is an international powerhouse.

anon4981298798#85

Anyone watch the finale?

TwoStrikes#86

Holy shit... today's Wednesday. I completely forgot about it last night

yeah me too!! and last tuesday i forgot.. and the tuesday before that.. yeah i forgot about this show. oops

NO. But like you ive seen 1-2 episodes but wanted to watch the finale just to see if the flop would return. But at least its not Eye Candy.

anon4981298798#89

They kept the ending (well, half of it), but the ******* sporadic editing in that specific scene killed the emotional weight of it. But the build-up to said scene was great.

Shannara was definitely an above average series for MTV, but way too many liberties were taken with the source material, and they shoved far too much angsty teeny bopper shit in our faces.

TwoStrikes#90

My only issue w the finale was that the whole show was about Amberlee planting the seed so the Elcryss would be healed etc so they go on this huge journey to safehold when literally all she ever had to do was just walk right back into the tree once she got the seed.
