Behind the Screen: Looking

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

It looks interesting Mitch. I wonder if it will run again on HBO before the second season...

Did anyone catch HBO's newest romance drama "Looking" earlier in the year? About three gay men living in the San Francisco area navigating the waters of first loves, holding together shakey relationships, and figuring out what to do when you're past your prime in the dating game. It stars Jonathan Groff (of Broadway & Glee fame), newcomer Frankie J. Alvarez, and Murray Bartlett (of Guiding Light fame).

It definitely isn't for everyone lol, but I enjoyed watching the halfhour show... first season only ran for 8 episodes (as well as the second season beginning early 2015). It has this gritty real-life feel to it... nothing seems candy coated and the dialogue is very realistic to how everyday people would respond to everyday situations. It gives off this cool aura about it... nothing seems forced and everything just happens naturally (whether it be good or bad). The acting is great (as it is for most HBO shows), and I can see why it was praised by critics and renewed. It had a lot of backlash, especially the subject matter, but the show did manage to keep solid ratings all througout its freshman season. I also like the fact that there is no singular stereotyping... that's probably what drew me most to the show... everyone is different, everyone has different personalities, and nothing seems out of the ordinary from these guys other than the fact that they just so happen to like other guys... which really is ordinary anyways lmao

Also the music is superb! If you love HBO's "Girls" you will most likely love this too.

Probably!! I really liked it... it was short and sweet. It's sort of following suit with British shows nowadays... less is more! Also I love Jonathan Groff so there's that too Blum 3

gonna warn you right now, there is a lot of sex and nudity in the show... with it being HBO and everything Blum 3

but go for it!! like i said, its not for everyone, but its worth it to give it a shot!

Well, I've watched True Blood and Game of Thrones, so I'm used to sex/nudity, and guy on guy stuff doesn't bother me

Here's a shot of the table read for Season 2.... if you notice there is a new addition on the far left hand side... he looks like he's almost too gay to function. That's right... Damian from Mean Girls has joined the cast of Looking. lmao nice

Omg Mitch! I just sat here and watched 5 of 7 episodes...I REALLY like this show! It's funny, but not what I'd classify as a "comedy". I just really enjoy all the characters (the acting is great), and the stories are so relatable to anyone who is a young, single adult. I love love love the main character, Patrick, and I find myself SO rooting for him and Richie. <3

Literally LOL'd when Patrick is drunk chowing on some Mac n Cheese, talking on the phone with Augustis, and Augustis says "What are you eating??" and he's like "Oh just a salad..."

Look forward to watching the last two eps and excited for next season. I would have never known this show existed if it weren't for you! Wink

Would fall more into the 'dramedy' category? Kind of like Shameless, where you wouldn't want to sit down with your family and watch it, but there's moments where you absolutely die laughing?

Well, yes, I suppose so. I'm not as good at reviewing things as you or Mitch, it's just, for me, an enjoyable, light, show!

I can't look at Jonathan Groff without seeing Kristoff from Frozen, hahaha! I'll definitely give this a shot in a few days after I finish the last few episodes of TD.
