Behind the Screen: Why did Dave leave The Island?

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

He may have also anticipated getting thrown into a (non)challenge with Dan (the drunk guy who wanted to kill him. ) and figured he'd just leave with his tail between his legs...

So he quit the show for her to be with her and she had already moved on to vicitm #2. I saw a couple of episodes of her Show and she seemed really sweet and down to earth...

Why did Dave leave The Island?

Bacchus ·
I got an interesting email today and after a bit of checking it looks to pan out. "I just wanted to share with you that Dave left because he was dating, Bailey Hanks, winner of Legally Blonde: The Search for Elle Woods. She also went to Coastal Carolina. Sadly, upon his return SHE WAS DATING SOMEONE ELSE! WHOOPSIE! Sincerely, The One Who Knows" Well that surely does suck! Sorry to hear it Dave. Also, we were hoping you would have stuck around so you could have made a banana split with that pompous ****** on The Island who should have gone home this week (instead of Abe.) Here is what Dave says about it on Remote Control:Some could argue that maybe it was too soon for me to be on another show so much like the Real World, although I don't really think that was it. Being a Rookie and the only one from Hollywood? Didn't matter to me -- I had met mostly everyone prior to the Challenge. I just started thinking about all the other things I could be doing with my time back home -- working on my clothing company and other businesses, shooting more for the show I was (and still am) lead hosting, etc. I had also met a very nice girl -- Bailey Hanks from MTV's Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search for Elle Woods -- before leaving for Panama and I wanted to see where that would go. I mean, I was just like, "This is boring and not what I had expected as far as savage competition."

Is it better to have left because of a woman you have only briefly known, or to leave because Dan just might rip your head off in a drunken rage? And which is the better explanation for your adoring legion of fans? We report, you decide...

He did secure himself an invitation for future challenges (I would think) because it would stir up so much drama. He's worse than Ace (who i like) who cracked with that bug jar on his head in his first challenge. I would have 'bugged out' too, but it was funny watching him run off the set like that.

Stop confusing me today Bacchus, I have a headache ;) All I meant was that for his whole "Tres Amigas" persona, it's funny to me that he either a) left the Island for a girl, or b) left because he was afraid of another guy. So I was just thinking..."WWND"....What would Nick Brown do?? :D

Didn't Dave know Bailey from school or something? I don't know the details of the relationship.. but I could swear I read someplace that they have been friends for awhile. I know he was totally rooting for her through the entire Legally Blonde competition.

Thank you. I read it elsewhere too... Maybe Dave's myspace page? It went into more detail.

I think Dave was bored, intimated and afraid of Dan and used Bailey as an exuse. But then again maybe he wanted to return home to get to the Hollywood's LIVE reunion show in NYC. Didn't they shoot the reunion during the same time as The Island?

The cast left for Panama on Jun 9 if I recall correctly.

And most of the cast know his explanation is a crock of shit.

Dave got overwhelmed I think by the entire thing coming down on him all at once. "The challenges aren't for everyone" as the the wise and powerful tool...I mean TJ said. It happens. Plus he was probably scared Dan would kill him in his sleep.

Oh okay, the reunion was July 12 so Dave was long gone from Panama by then..
