Vevmo Fantasy Baseball: 2010

It is never too early to start thinking about baseball. Heck, I think about baseball year round! I figured it would be a good idea to put together a league now, well in advance of the season so that we will be assured of having 10 dedicated fantasy owners by draft time in late March. League Summary League Name: Vevmo Baseball Inc. League Type: Private Draft Date: March 28, 2010, 4:00 PM ET Draft Style: Live Draft Scoring System: H2H Player Pool: Both AL/NL League Home Password: vevmo User image Will the Cutty Sarks again sail to victory?

It's simple, really. First of all, we have a live draft. There are ten teams, a random order is established and we pick one by one trying to fill all our positions for 20 rounds. Each week you will have to field the following: Catcher (C) - 1 First Basemen (1B) - 1 Second Basemen (2B) - 1 Third Basemen (3B) - 1 Shortstops (SS) - 1 Outfielders (OF) - 3 Utility (U) - 1 (Any infielder or outfielder. Also known as Flex.) Starting Pitchers (SP) - 5 Relief Pitchers (RP) - 2 (Total 16 starters and 4 bench players.) There will be a waiver wire (players not taken in the draft) and you can swap out players for those on the list in a given week to bolster your roster. Newly waived players can also be taken, but there is a pecking order based on your record. You can also trade with other teams (and the league members will either approve or deny the trades.) Each week on Monday, a new round starts that runs until Sunday. You are paired against another team in the league. The team with the highest total at the end of the week, wins - and then you start all over again with another team and a new week. User image With 2 weeks left in the baseball season, the fantasy playoffs start. The two division winners and a wild card team. They go head to head until there is only one. That's pretty much it!

All the baseball "know it alls" that trash talk in the MLB threads are required by Vevmo charter to join this league and put their money where their mouth is! :D

I joined as well.

I would join but your live draft is right in the middle of my work day, since I live in Arizona and it would occur at 1pm.

That is why I put it on Sunday, but if you work on Sunday you can always just do a really good job at ranking your players for auto selection based on best available. :D

Football was fun though, right? Er...well, I thought it was fun! The thing with baseball is that games are played everyday and there is much more you can do with the waiver wire to improve your team (so it is not all about the draft.) When I looked at my final squad last year 65% of the players on my championship winning team were from the waiver wire in my final series. You are not counting on just one big play on Sunday to win the game for you, but rather the combined totals of 6 or 7 games a week per player and all their accumulated scoring. Players warm and cool. There are much more pronounced cycles. I think baseball is more of a skill game than football, because there are 162 games rather than just 16.

I grabbed the last spot ... I no longer work on Sundays and can do the draft too. This is going to be a snake style draft, correct?

1 though 10 and then 10 through 1. Draft order randomly determined on draft day.
Desertpuma#25
Looking over things now ... the last time I did Fantasy Baseball it was a 5x5 league .. I have yet to try it H2H. I like the idea of it much better. I'll have to get a couple of D-Backs just because

I like it because each week is a new week and you might be the worst team in the league but have a chance to take out the best team in the league depending on how well your squad does. I've played in leagues based on overall scoring in the past and by mid season the bottom wrung teams have already quit... At least in this format, you can still stick it to someone any given week. ;)
Desertpuma#27
It is also not just about the overall stats for the season like rotisserie where you can stack yourself with big bats for the season and never look back. They have to perform well for you each week, not over the course of the season.

I'm keeping an eye on things, but I want to see a few spring training games before I go full bore into ordering.
