Behind the Screen: Teen Mom OG- MTV

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

Poor Amber? The ***** refused to continue rehab, which she knew would get her sent to jail. I hope she gets the full 5 years. I just feel for Leah, she's the innocent victim.

Are you serious? Nice continuity MTV.
TwoStrikes#186
Haha yeah the episode was just on. It's pretty early into the episode too when Gary is on the phone with Amber.
Nostalgic#187
That is so sad. I can't stand Gary though. He is not real.

That's really offensive, Molds. I was born to a teenage mom so that makes her stupid? I also had a kid at 17. Wow.
arilicious#192
Just because you have a kid at a a young age doesn't necessarily make you an idiot. Is it a huge mistake to have a kid that young? Hell yes. But that doesn't always mean that you're stupid.

Am I saying that all teen parents are stupid? No. There are probably some, somewhere. Personally, I have yet to meet one that can hold an intelligent conversation. The stats do not lie. Only one-third of girls who have a teenage pregnancy finish high school. 1.5% of women who have a child in their teens have a college degree by 30. And 80 percent end up on welfare. Raising a child on welfare is not a smart decision. It is a vicious cycle that, more often than not, ends up with the child committing similar acts to the mother in order to become dependent on welfare. Teen parents are more likely to have children that become teen parents, and you are a prime example of that. There are a lot more negative connotations associated with being a teenage mother than positive ones. That isn't a coincidence. It's my opinion. I am allowed to have one.

IMO it makes you irresponsible for getting pregnant in the first place since condoms are sold practically everywhere cheaply and some places even have the morning after pill in vending machines I have heard. I don't think a girl should have an abortion just because she is a teen, but if you are grown up enough to be having sex, then you should be grown up enough to use protection if you cannot raise and support a child on your own.

Yes you are, but you are absolutely ridiculous in it. Keep in mind I have no problem with you whatsoever other than this. Also those stats do not equal stupidity. Blasphemy.

Another ridiculous one. And that's like saying the same thing about skin cancer and tanning. Unless you go through it personally yourself you have no say in it whatsoever. Also condoms weren't always around as they are now. Get real.

No, I really am not. My original statement was comparing the stars of Jersey Shore to those on Teen Mom. I was not comparing them to all teen mothers. If I remember correctly, an overwhelming majority of the Teen Moms from season 1 got pregnant as a result of not using any form of contraception. That is not a smart decision. It is irresponsible. Irresponsible = stupid, in my opinion. Why have unprotected sex if you KNOW that the end result might be a child, especially if you're just a kid yourself? How many of the teens on 16 and Pregnant are with the father of their child? How many went on to college? One third of the mothers from the first season have been arrested.

Are you saying you didn't have any access to any contraception when you were 17?

Did I say that? No. I was referring to those not of our time thank you very much.

Yes you are: 1). Some of their significant others are dead. Have some respect. I'm sorry but I miss the part about you being perfect, which you're not. 2). Some are actually going to college others not so much (others are still getting their **** together which I applaud them for) as that doesn't exactly factor in to them being stupid either. 3). So what? I'm not going to make any excuses for the cast but **** does happen whether it be Amber's domestic violence and Gary's punk ***-ness (lol) for not putting his foot down like a man should to Janelle's drug use. Each of them are responsible for their own actions as well as you, Molds. I had no idea that a lot of people on a reality show forum (no i don't have a problem with this site I actually love it) were or are the poster children for perfection and sanity.

I'd be the first person to tell you that I'm not perfect but yes, I'm very responsible for my own actions. It's why I don't have any kids and am college educated. Look, I understand that you think I insulted your mom and are taking offense to it by calling her (and you) stupid. I have very clearly not done that. I do not find the mothers (and most of the fathers) on this television show to be smart people. That's it.

I thought you were referring to you. Sorry, I don't know how old you are. I too was born to a teenage mom. She raised both my brother and I by herself. She joined the military, and now lives in a half million dollar home. You're putting yourself into that category though, of which you claim isn't true. Molds is just stating statistics. I think you need to grow a little thicker skin. You're acting like Frank, on gay comments.

Oh my god, you went there! I can't believe you called me Frank. I'm done! lol. But yeah I do sometimes take things the wrong way but its the truth, Reiko. She was wrong with how she handle it. Not saying I was extremely right either but I'm not the only one who was taken aback.

I disagree. Amber isn't smart. The others actually don't seem stupid to me. Farrah is bratty, but I would say that she's actually the smartest of the bunch. Aside from getting knocked up by Ryan, Maci seems to be a pretty smart girl. Looking at where she comes from, I think Catelynn is extremely smart and responsible.

I don't know if you dealt with this growing up, like I have, but I was always getting criticized. I think a lot of it had to do with me being born to a teenage mom, who was single, and being half Mexican. I use to freak out like you, but after getting to high school, I just decided to look at those situations as opportunities to prove people wrong. I look past the stereotypes now, because those aren't me.

Thanks. Your words mean a lot to me. I guess sub-consciously I never got over it.

Unless you are like 60, condoms have always been around--you just had to ask for them at the drugstore instead of having them on the shelf at Walmart. And when 80% of teen parents are receiving welfare, then yes, as far as I am concerned, everybody who pays taxes has a say in it since the money that is supporting those 80% isn't growing on trees.

Condoms have been used for over 400 years with Latex condoms being available since the 20's (90+ years ago.) The problem has never been the overall availability of contraception, but rather moral traps that prevent proper sexual education... User image In the end, it is an issue of education.
