You can't look at the decision to vote out Rachel as a failure because Tyson didn't switch. The thought process behind it was great and it was the best move they could have made at the point in time, Tyson even admitted so himself. You also have to realize that once the merge hits, the alliance you are in pre-merge might become obsolete. You need to have a grasp on what kind of alliance your loved one will be in if you plan on aligning with them after the merge. I am sure Vytas is aware that Tina and Aras are aligned, so it makes sense to keep Katie and any of her allies around for the numbers after the merge. Thinking long term is the best way to win the game, but it isn't the best way to ensure you make the merge.
Don't you think they could vote out the weakest one of their tribe and form an alliance with the best redemption island inhabitant there, Candice by helping her and use her and John plus her friends on the other tribe as alliance members rather than looking what the vets might do if one go with this simple idea and angry one of the best of the whole cast this early. If you do this, they should've vote out one of the daughters as their mothers probably would've stepped up since it's almost an instinct for a mother to save their daughter. Which means you got rid of a weak member and give it to the other tribe as an parasite. If Tyson would've swapped with Rachel it wouldn't have made a huge different since Rachel wasn't that bad. Plus, I still think Tyson is a far better alliance member than Tina going forward. One he's a strong player which means if he does not win an IC you can easily vote him out and two is seems to be the better strategic player this time.
