Behind the Screen: Scripted Television: Generic Thread

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

I think the peak of Perry's career was when he got punk'd. Top 5 episode for sure...

If I recall what I read correctly, the lead cast had a pact from the very beginning that they would all be paid the same and there would no "star" among them and they stuck to that until the end. By the time they were making millions per episode, Jennifer Anniston was THE girl on TV and was thereafter in the tabloids with Brad Pitt every week.
So. Aniston being a big star does not mean that other people on the show cannot be. They aren't mutually exclusive. Perry: 1) Was on a hit TV show that many Americans were hooked to 2) Was making a million episode on season 9 and 10 3) Was a household name 4) Was even parodied on other shows (madtv, simpsons, and etc.) If that doesn't make you a big tv star, then what does? A sex tape?

I think the peak of Perry's career was when he got punk'd. Top 5 episode for sure. His movie exploits bombed with the highlight maybe being that flick with Selma Hayek. I wish him the best as an actor, but I think he might be suited for a network vehicle as a secondary character. I don't see him as a guy you can build a show around.

Getting paid millions of dollars and being in a #1 show when you do not have Courtney Cox and Jennifer Anniston in your cast would be a good start. He is famous--yes; he is rich--yes; he is well-known --yes. Has he ever done anything really successful where he was the sole lead? Not that I can think of.

Huge flaw. Using your logic, a lot of big stars on tv right now would not be considered big stars. :D PS: Just to be clear, please don't take this personally. We are all friends here. :)

Why would I take your being wrong personally? :sarcastic_hand: Chelsea Handler is famous but her sitcom flopped because it wasn't funny. The same will happen with Matthew Perry's new show. The reason is that neither of them is really a comedian. :blum3:

Chelsea Handler actually is a comedian, but Matthew Perry isn't.

I just wanted to make sure. Some people get really butt hurt on other forums and take things the wrong way. Lots of context is stripped away in words and texts since I am not a word smith. Any who, let's just say we agree to disagree on Perry.

While I agree I can't help it. I loved Chandler.

Matthew Perry went from being the smartass Friend to being the straight man who plays the foil to the eccentric character/lead. That does not make him a huge standout talent in the world of comedy IMHO. As for Chelsea Handler, sure she is a technically a comedian, but all she really does is say cynical smartass **** to and about people with little creativity or wit to it IMO.

OMG. Awake was soooooooooo good tonight. It is my absolute favorite show. I like it better than revenge...that is how much I love this show. I am so disappointed that it got cancelled. Do you think if I am extra good this year, maybe Santa Claus will bring it back? User image

No but if you're extra good Santa will bring you a slap upside the head. JK. But to be honest you need to get into Revenge if not already.

I am watching Revenge too, but I just like Awake so much more. :sadwalk: Oh well, it was great while it lasted.

I just saw the partners trailer/behind the scenes look...and David Krumholtz looks like a miscast. On the other hand, I am glad M Urie was casted. He looks like he is really having fun in his role.

I agree, especially being paired against Sophia Bush.

I got another taste of him on Apartment 23. I now think that he could quite possibly get "Partners" cancelled single-handedly.

I'm lol-in right now. I just hope it doesn't suck like Teen Wolf and Awkward though it could be like Freddy's Nightmare or non connecting like F13 series.

I am glad fox picked up The Mindy Project. I am not sure if it will fair well in terms of ratings though. I kind of think that there are too many doctor shows.

Agreed. Awake is really the only one I am sad about after looking over that list. The others I've either never heard of/forgotten about or had no interest in to start with.
So now I have to decide between Ian Somerhalder and Glee? Oh, hell no.

Go with Ian. I hear he is a dreamy vampire  :vampire: LOL I can tell you the entire story arch for Season 4 of Glee: Rachel doesn't get what she wants and sings a song; Rachel has a pity party and sings a song with Kurt; Rachel decides to be bold and sings a song with Kurt; Rachel gets what she wants and sings a song X 23 episodes. To have a staff of like 20 high-dollar writers, Glee has the most pointless scripts ever in the history of television. :mail1: :dash3:

So friggin annoying. But I'll probably go with Ian and catch Glee on demand.

FYI someone I know who has seen the full Nashville pilot said that the older lady from Friday Night Lights is incredibly good in this series.
Nostalgic#86
by older lady you mean the one who played in ANOES remake/AHS? If so, thanks for the tidbit.
Inglorious#87
I won't be watching Nashville.

Yeah, sorry. Connie Britton but I couldn't recall her name. Anyway she is supposed to be fantastic in this show. I am working on getting the scoop on the JJ Abrams show as well. The person I talked to thinks they have the pilot in their stack but they haven't watched it yet.

You're good. And I love Connie Britton she is a totally awesome actress. And I love how your friend is on the inside.

If there is a new show for fall airing you want the 411 on send me a PM and I will see if they have seen it yet or will be seeing it. Never hurts to ask. Most of the pickup shows have been taped already at least through the first 8-12 episodes.

They are doing an entire marathon of multiple showings here in Nashville on Saturday for CMA (Country Music Association) Fest, which brings in thousands of people. I think they are showing the pilot at least 5 times throughout the day. I've heard it's supposed to be really good, but I wasn't really a fan of what I saw in the trailer. I do, however, like Connie Britton.
