Behind the Screen: RIP Eddie "Umaga" Fatu of the Anoa'i Wrestling Family

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

I liked when he was teamed with his brother who was best known as (Rosie)...

It's sad to see him go as he had a lot of promise at one point. My heart goes out to his friends and family...

RIP Eddie "Umaga" Fatu of the Anoa'i Wrestling Family

A few days prior to December 4, 2009, returning home to Spring, Texas, Fatu had just completed a wrestling tour with Hulk Hogan in Australia. On December 4, 2009, Fatu was hospitalized after his wife found him not breathing with blood coming out of his nose a few hours after he had fallen asleep the night before while watching television. He was rushed to a local hospital in Houston, Texas and was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit. It was reported that Fatu had suffered a heart attack. Fatu was pronounced deceased around 6:00 PM EST after suffering a second heart attack. Being a fan of wrestling I would like to send out my condolences to his family and friends. He is also known as the cousin of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as well as the younger brother of former WWE Superstar Rikishi. For those who think steroids had to do with his death, you are wrong. He never took steroids. He only got released from the WWE because he refused to stop smoking pot. He violated their regulations twice and refused rehab.
