The Real World/Road Rules Scripted?

I was searching online and I found a website called GeorgiesDishes.com (which is no longer working) and the owner of the site worked for MTV and stuff like that. And he counted the most scripted shows ever and I cant exactly remember what the top ten were but the Real World Road Rules were number 3 and Brooke Knows best/Hogan knows best were 2. Kardashians were number 8 i think. And I was shocked to hear about that number 4 was ABDC! I heard ABDC selects who goes home such as Fanny Pak didnt win and Rythm City didnt win. But anyways I hear them saying how on The Ruins apparently he filmed there. They set up a sign for Kellyanne and Sarah to go one way the champs(if you'd call em that) to go another. Kellyanne and Sarahs went the wrong way! And they set up a specific challenge so Wes would lose. I also heard that the cast members were not aware of this that they have special meeting with production. And really do you expect me to believe that Kenny and Johnny are smart? Or strong? After hearing this Im not watching FM2 and I wasn't going to watch RWDC. But this is crazy! They instigating what happens in the show and everything! I'm shocked! and he said he's friend works for a VH1 love show (I love money 4). And that is it completely real. (like casting a murder and Kelsey getting her head fracture real.) But some of the cast members will make drama so they can get their 15 minutes.But the Bad girls club is CRAZY real. But This is unbelievable I don't think I can watch MTV shows after hearing this. But I mean in a way All Reality shows are scripted but the real World road rules they always talk about it being so Real. And I also think they may pay Evan and Kenny to do this crap. But I think they're real *******s in real life. But come on MTV! Do something real for once?! Beside True Life and Teen Mom. (Which I watch.) He did not say anything about Jersey Shore. But he said he worked with Road Rules challenges many times. And he's friends with many people who work in other shows. And he knew someone who worked for the Teen mom show and they do make it look worse than original but is usually real. So that all I heard and he emailed me and that Viacom or something like that made him shut his site down. So I guess he was telling the truth.... YOU GUYS DECIDE.

I agree that RW/RR shows are scripted some, but they didn't help JEKDS win the final challenge over two girls, that's absurd. And I seriously doubt it happened, but lets say that it did, it wouldn't matter for The Ruins final challenge because no matter which way the teams went they still had to do a challenge or whatever to get closer to winning the whole thing, the reason Sarah and Kelly Anne lost is because Kelly Anne took so damn long walking and balancing on the sticks or whatever it was. And maybe they shut that guy's website down because he was talking a bunch of BS and he was probably some discruntled and pissed off person who got fired by MTV. And of course Evan and Kenny get paid to do the show just like the rest of the castmembers do, duh!! And if Wes got set up to lose then what about Coutta and Syrus and Adam and Chet and on and on, because all of those guys had an unfair disadvantage in the Ruins aswell. I guess they set up Derrick to get his *** kicked too, in the Gauntlet 2, ya know, since he was spinning a wheel with a magnet in it that chose Reverse Tug of War vs. Timmy. Give me a break, Wes sure as hell wasn't the first to have a disadvantage in an elimination round. This thread is rediculus.

Just to play Devil's advocate: We are now up to the 24th season of The Real World and not one person has ever come forward to share the amount of "scripting" involved, yet there are only a handful of people on The Hills and basically half the cast has already admitted how scripted it is over the course of a handful of seasons? It is funny how conspiracy theories are always based on the fact that hundreds or thousands of people are going to keep their mouth shut for no apparent reason, lol. We have Emilee ripping into BMP via twitter on a daily basis, yet she is not going to share the fact that there was a cue card that told her to jump on Bronne's comic books (or something to that effect?) I've talked to dozens and dozens of cast members who share the most intimate of details, yet they fail to mention the daily script they got before shooting began? I'm just saying, there is naturally some "scripting" involved with any television production - but at least with The Real World franchise I don't think it reaches the level of high crimes and misdemeanors. The Challenge Series is a little different... But if you were scripting it. You'd WANT Wes to win, not lose. What would be the point of getting rid of the "star" of the series? He might not be everyone's favorite, but he was the first 5 episodes in their entirety and for the first time JEK had a real adversary. I guess an argument could be made both ways, but if I was on set and it was up to me I don't even think it would take me half a second to decide if I wanted to keep Wes or Cohutta on the show. Wes was bringing it day in and day out across a wide spectrum. He's good TV and a great antihero. Cohutta's just Cohutta...great guy but not necessarily great TV.

I think the only way Real World / The Challenges are scripted is by the editing. ...and that you can hardly call 'scripted'.

I would not say scripted but I would say they choose Challenges or Eliminations that will give one person a bigger advantage or disadvantage. Other than that, most of it seems to be editing.

I don't think I'd call the show scripted, but I don't think everything that happens in 100% natural. However, hasn't Irene from Seattle said the show was scripted? And didn't Beth say during the Gauntlet 2 that asked her to re-shoot her quitting the game. This doesn't convince me that there is scripting involved in the show, but if the show was scripted I'm sure they would sign contracts that require cast members to keep quiet about it. I think that production tries to rig the show. With show like the RW/RR Challenges, I'm sure there is some rigging done by productions but I don't think the things people say is scripted. Like some of these Ruins may not have been that random after all. They were probably designed because production thought one person would do better. I would not be surprised if production tried to rig the final challenge so the girls lost. Ultimately, production my throw some unnecessary hurdles in certain people's direction, but they don't script how people react to the hurdles.

Those type of production things happen all the time in reality shows. It is not the same as being scripted. (scene happens) Producer: Hey, can you just do that again really quick, we want to get that from another angle. Yes, stuff like that goes down...

I can't believe you guys are still saying The Ruins was rigged, haha. If so, it was the worst rigging in reality show history. Why would they want the dominant, "controlled the game people" to win? Did they want less people to watch? (Hey, let's try to really, really tank the ratings!) If they were going to rig it the underdogs would have won....Wes would have been a factor and there would have been a lot more challengers in the hunt at the end. They would have made it interesting... (Which it stopped being a little over half way through...) That's like saying the Patriots game yesterday was rigged by CBS because they really love blowouts (and didn't care that many of the viewers started tuning out once the score became lopsided.)

I know they do reshoots sometimes to get a different viewpoint. I know it has also been stated on here that sometimes they have to do reshoots because either the prizes for winning a mission are less than spectacular or someone, like TJ, hoses the speeches he is supposed to make and they have to be redone. But they don't reshoot the competitions or edit to adjust who won.

I think the only time you could say they scripted something for the betterment of the "storyline" was the Svetlana/Beth duel.

These shows are not "scripted". People do not read off of cue cards or memorize lines. But I do agree producers can persaude people to say things on camera and maybe egg people on to do things but that's it. But believe me when I tell you, The Real World/Road Rules is definitely not scripted. The only shows that are some what scripted are/were The Simple Life and Keeping Up With The Kardashians, shows that feature celebrities.

I don't believe the RW/RR Challenge is necessarily SCRIPTED, but like all or most competitive reality shows, I DO believe there is production influence to some degree, whether its pre-production, production or post-production. We saw that with Big Brother 8 when there was a massive witch hunt and outbreak claiming that producers HEAVILY influenced the game and it's house guests. And if the RW/RR Challenge is influenced to, I wouldn't be surprised! Be honest now, don't you think it would've been AWESOME television if Kellyanne and Sarah won? That would be HUGE and to say that producers might have given them a bit of an edge so that they could potentially win, I'm not surprised. Producers have the final say, and they could skew the show if they wanted to. In the end, these guys ARE making television shows. A lot of people claim to like the first Real World season because it was the "realest" the show could ever be. And sure it provided us with a handful of REAL moments, but some of it was staged as well because producers didn't trust the (first ever) 7 roomies enough to make interesting television. Julie's date was staged, Eric's modeling book was staged and I'm sure there were a few more things. And with Seattle's Irene... I think she's just bitter.

it does look like some of the real world seasons or parts were scripted or acted out for our attention i mean think about. they argue then the next day there friends again and make up then they come home drunk from a bar and do someting they regret it seem repititive to me i really dont watch too much of the Real World no more since brooklyn i wait till the challenges. the challenges i dont think are scripted or acted (may never know) cuz everybody gonna act crazy over some money.

Ya to me thats scripted but everyone has there own defintion of the word I think its when its not real. But No reality show is real and He didnt say they told people what to say or gave them cue cards.

As for the 1st Real World, the only truly staged things were the meeting of Larry Johnson and the Detroit Pistons. They were the most arranged. Julie even said they were never forced to do anything (which would include the blind date) but they were "under pressure to do something."

its hard to realize it and face the truth becuz we have watched the real world and challenges for many years but some of it is scripted or stage. who would watch RW without drama thats why they are told to create it and thats why they cast people like gays and people who are selfish to play these parts. im not saying not to watch it cuz i still watch MTV i love watching the challenges more tho. im just saying the meaning of TV we all know is to please the eye so shows are going play what we want to see even if it means making it staged, scripted, or real.

How does the selection process have anything to do with the show being staged or scripted? Are you saying that they pick people to play roles? Because I think they just select people that have their diffrences (drama purposes) but to also make it seem more real... no one wants to see a group of people with the same boring personality. But that doesn't make it staged.

im not saying everything in the real world is scripted or staged im saying some of it could be and it wouldnt surprise me. all reality and tv shows do whatever they can to catch our attention and keep us tuned it and you all know that. i like the RW but not as much as i use to after RW sydney i started watching it occasionally just like i do vh1 right now since i love money is gone. the challenges are still good all the way they gotta keep those going strong.

No One ever said that they said SOME parts are scripted some aren't I say The Real World Austin IS the best season ever. (fake or real.) I say Danny and Melinda's engagement was real so were Torri and Brad's. But many other parts of Real World are fake.(Maybe not many.) Like In Brooklynn when they put a rat in a bed I think producers told them to do it. But Rian going back to Iraq WAS REAL. So it depends

This Thread is ridiculous. There is no way the RW or RWRR is scripted. There has been so many events/tragedies that just cannot be scripted! and the whole ruins finale setup must be fake, because in my opinion helping a team win money is illegal. That website got shut down for a reason! C'mon you guys have been watching the RW & RWRR for years. And have seen the drama. REAL drama.
