Behind the Screen: Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Island

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

Hey yeah I just now noticed that...is that the offical name for the challenge? Does it mean that ghosts will battle our fair castmates? :P

That is a working name. I am not sure what they actually went with at this point. Having a little trouble locating "Ghost island" or the Spanish "Isla fantasma" and am trying to see if it is a real place or a made up place. No real leads thus far. I need to do more research. Anyone here speak Spanish and feel like calling a few Panamanian places of interest? lol

Is this gonna be a Scoobie Doo challenge (and I say that with all sarcasm implied). Why oh why are they doing something so out of left field. They tried that with Viewer's Revenge and it did NOT work!
GoldenWarrior#6
Honestly I could care less what it is called as long as there is a good challenge format in place and it's enjoyable to watch. Road Rules VR was a good idea in my opinion but it just didn't work out in some areas.

When will we know who the first female out is?

We will know when we will know Jimmy. This isn't like predicting phases of the moon. There are no mathematical calculations to be done to achieve results. It is all based on observations in the field and those observations are often inconclusive and random. It is not a science. As soon as I know something and it is "clear" for public consumption, I post it. We don't even know if there is a male or female order to things (i.e. on Survivor, there are no gender rules for elimination. Also, eliminations are every 3 days, not every day.)
ColiesMom#9
Your so smart Bacchus. We don't know the format so it could be another male eliminated. I hope so, the females are so much more entertaining.
V1man#10
We should keep our minds open to the possibility that "eliminations" just happen when they happen and may not occur regularly, fixed as to gender, or even one at a time. The rules may also allow someone to "self-eliminate" due to the conditions both yours and the environment) and still get paid his/her appearance fee.
GoldenWarrior#11
That is a good point it's all still a mystery to us right now since it is a brand new format it seems. Who knows where they are taking it and eventually we will find out so we just have to be patient.
Dartagnan#12
There are so many factors we have to take into account. Are we still not aware of the actual location? I hope there is still an elimination round, but a whole new, interesting format. That is what I have been waiting for.

Every 3 days? I thought the eliminations were the same day as the challenge?
GoldenWarrior#14
There has to be some off days there inbetween challenges I don't think they are everyday either so the cast can rest and well drink....mostly drink.

You are praticing "old think" again. ;) It appears there are no down days this time given the "rigors" of jungle life. Getting the facts to post, however, is a little like trying to nail jello to a wall in the middle of a southern California heat wave.

Oh ok. Very interesting.
Katiedid#19
I wonder if the cast knew ahead of time that this challenge is supposed to be dramatically different??? Because I feel like some people just go on these things to party in a tropical locale while getting paid for a month, not to truly compete in strenuous comps.

They did know that it was going to have an outdoorsy feel, although I think knowing it is going to be different and then actually being in that environment are two different things.

From the way the format seems to be workling it they probably won't be getting alcohol regularly. And they probably can't go out to a club to party every night so I wonder how these new cast members(or even the old ones) are doing going from partying Real World partying to this.

Actually, I don't think BMP has any qualms about starving them while at the same time feeding them copious amounts of booze....
GoldenWarrior#23
The Hidden Immunity Idol is actually a bottle of Jack Daniels this time around and it grants you the power to do insanely stupid things on a regular basis...

I have a feeling they signed away all rights weeks ago. ...and no one is forcing them to drink the booze either. :D
GoldenWarrior#30
Well I'm sure there are some rats or bugs around there to eat unless James(from Survivor China and fans vs favorites) got to them first. Plus you can go without food but booze...they couldn't last ten seconds User image
