Behind the Screen: Real World: San Diego (2011) - Pride and Prejudice

The reality TV landscape has never been more crowded or more diverse. From dating shows to competition series to docusoaps, networks and streamers are betting big on unscripted content.

What sets the great shows apart is their ability to create genuine moments — the kind of unscripted drama that no writer's room could manufacture. That's what keeps fans coming back.

Is it wrong if I think Frank and Mike are too hot together. I'm a straight girl...

I laughed when Ashley made the comment "My anxiety is so high right now" or something like that when they were at Pride. I was like, "Yeah, its called homoPHOBIA". But I think a lot of her anti-gayness comes from following along with whatever Zach does or says, and also to just be dramatic.
Sadly, she is following the same pattern most girls featured on RW do. She has pretty much 'carried water' for Zach since the beginning. I know there are smart, independent women out there in the world, but they hardly, if ever, get selected for shows like this.

Call me a "homophobe" or "immature" or whatever but like I accept their lifestyles as long as they keep it far away from me
I don't think you're a homophobe at all. Probably just a germaphobe. Keep all that gross stuff away from me, ew yucky germs! Ew!

Why are they promoting the next episode as a Zach-Ashley Showmance when they already said on the last After Show that they have never even kissed? :dash1:

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they the castmembers are directed to answer the questions as to the point of time when that particular episode was filmed, not in present-day.

It's probably the only thing they can scrape from the bottom of Ashley's storyline barrel.

I would rather see an entire episode of her just sitting in a room doing nothing than the entire Zach and Ashely horrible personalities everlasting love storyline.

Guys don't worry, we're actually getting a Priscilla/Alexandra episode after Ashley gets hers this week. Only took about 8 episodes too.

I personally don’t see a big problem with people going off track about homophobia, but everyone’s beating the dead horse by repeating their opinion after each episode. Anyway, this was the first good episode of the season! It’s nice to see the calm after the storm, and I enjoy Frank much more when he’s happy, and Zach and Ashley. His infatuation for Mike seemed a bit excessive, but then again I don't exactly know how long they’ve known each other for. A lot of things in Frank’s life are done in excess (his drinking, anger, investment in relationships, etc…), which is why, I think, he has so many issues. Seems like he’s only learning about moderation now. Quote of the Episode (should’ve started this a while ago): "The effort is being put forth to build a relationship with me and Zach on Frank’s part and we’re trying to develop something with him as well"

Ashley is great, why do people not see this?

Is anyone suspicious of this Mike guy other than me? It appeared rather opportunistic for him since first he lives in LA, works as recruitment coordinator for AIDS/LifeCycle so getting air time on MTV is a great job booster. He clearly was not as smitten with Frank as Frank was with him. But others have already discussed Frank wearing his emotions on his sleeve.

Sarcasm? Anyway I think one reason why people don’t see it is because she’s had 11 minutes of screen time in 6 episodes haha. She has potential. But I don’t understand/like the fact that she’s beautiful, nice, (and smart, I hope), but so eager to please Zach. She would be more likeable if she were more independent. This quote made me laugh because she's talking about Zach and her as one entity.

I don't remeber any of that being said in the episode and I know pretty much nothing about him, but no I don't find him any more suspicious than any other person who shows up as a local/extra on Real World.

I hope the house catches on fire in the middle of the night and she single-handedly rescues everyone in it so you peeps will stop hating on her finally. I feel like I know her better than I do Alex.

Lol i know right, people joke about how she's so boring and invisible but we know more about her than we know about Alex and Priscilla. Priscilla is the invisible one at this point.

Let's see... Alex is an aspiring singer who has issues with her boyfriend, grew up and suffered through racisim in South Africa, and has had quite a good amount of attention in magazines for her work in music. Priscilla is the only local castmember this season, has a nice big ole traditional family who we see quite a bit so far and manages to prove her wisdom is not limited to her young age. Despite being protrayed as physically sheltered and stuck at home, she has a strange affinity for accepting people no matter what their background is. She also gives a hilariously bad haircut to Frank and can't go out to clubs and drink, which explains why you believe she has a lack of airtime. Ashley is....what again? No, really, what's unique about her that makes her better than Pris and Alex, apparently? I really want to know.

Duh, she has blonde hair. Blondes are smarterer than dark haired people.

Based on what has aired on the show, all we really know about Alex is that she freaks out when her boyfriend opens wine without her. (Yes I read spoiler threads but I like to stick to what is shown on TV)

Maybe it'll be covered in future eps? Hell, I'm holding onto that same hope for Ashley but at the moment we're all in the dark in that regard.
