Behind the Screen: Real World: San Diego (2011) - Pride and Prejudice

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

I haven't watched the last 2 and a half episodes. I take it I haven't missed anything exciting...

Real World: San Diego (2011) - Pride and Prejudice

On tonight's episode, Zach attempts to keep this season relevant by playing the role of the big, bad "wing nut" in which he was cast, to little effect (at least as far as the relevant part goes.) Meanwhile, tensions rise within the production ranks as cameramen continue to fall asleep on the job; a sound guy throws his boom mic and headset into the ocean, yelling "Why God. Why me?" after choosing the shortest straw and being handed "that blonde girl shift."

Frank's crazy when drunk. Frank's kind of crazy when sober. Nate knew a bunch of people who committed suicide. Sam's friend got hurt. Alexandra's boyfriend visited and they were annoying. Sam wants the house to partake in gay culture. Zach doesn't want to partake in gay culture. Zach said something stupid. Frank's still crazy. The rest of the show was filled by lots of nothing and lots of gay rights/culture stuff spread out. Looks like that continues this week.

After following the spoilers for this season, I actually didn't think Zach would be getting so much camera time. He's kind of a bore though lol

Well next week has Zach and Ashley choosing not to do it, as well as Zach's whole WUT R U GONNA DO?! WUT IS ANYONE GUNNA DO?! thing. Or does that count as nothing?
jesses_girl#8
Nate's face during that whole scene was hilarious haha

For those who are wondering and didn't watch MTV.com stuff, which is the people who aren't idiots like I am, Zach does in fact go by the bible and that's where his dislike of homosexuality comes from. Also, how much longer until Priscilla actually shows off her dodgeballs she got put in her chest like in all of the previews?

How can people not like Nate!?

The cutaway shots of Zach and the blonde girl were priceless.

You kidding me? Those were the most scandalous shots of Zach and Ashley this entire season! I mean come on, reading books? We all know that they're not allowed to bring books onto the show, so they're breaking the law by doing that.
Calinks#13
At this point I'm starting to think I would have made for a more entertaining cast mate than Ashley. That's a very bad thing BMP.

Nate is awesome. He's my favorite cast member from this season at the moment.

I'm guessing Zach was reading The Great Gatsby and she was reading Catch 22.

NOW I see what MTV was going for with this cast. Two openly gay people. Two guys who don't like homosexuality. One girl who'd follow and imitate the guy who doesn't like homosexuality does. And two girls who won't even be shown on camera.
Calinks#17
Hahaha Nate is tore up from the floor up!

I'm calling it now, Ashley will make out with a chick on a challenge.

I doubt she'll ever get picked to be on one. She offers nothing to this show.

I'm assuming she does fetch Zach water when he is thirsty. That has to be worth something.

I don't see a problem with "being uncomfortable." It's not like they had a Tammy Faye nudist resort moment.
jesses_girl#23
I know right, they weren't being rude or anything.

But there is really no reason for it. What's the point of being worked up over nothing. No one said or did anything to them.

Who was worked up? They were just chilling on their own and Ashley seemed friendly with Britt and Mike.
Nightwolf#26
Wait he got pissed when they were uncomfortable, but thinks it's so amazing that they told his gay friend to drive safely?
jesses_girl#27
Picking a fight with your mom, cool stuff Frank.

A bit rough, to say the least.
Calinks#29
WTF? So he's now claiming to be full on gay? What happened to whole digging Alex thing?

They had some reservations before, during and after the event. My point is to move on from it (which there are signs that they are). One's life can be so much better when you don't dwell on things.

I feel like I have been watching one storyline stretched out over an entire season. Was there really nothing else to explore?
