Real World: San Diego (2011) - It's My Party and I'll Bang If I Want To

I would argue that if you have sex on TV, you can kiss any hope of having a career beyond the Challenges and appearances goodbye for the next 5-10 years of your life. Just being on the Real World would be like having a criminal conviction outside of the entertainment community I would imagine.

I agree. Read Frank's current blog. He moved to LA, obviously not in a romantic relationship with Mike any longer, and goes on about how he can't find work in LA, is broke, but still sleeping around WEHO and his one night stands aren't helping him make friends or build relationships.. Quite sad, really. I thought he had the most potential of anyone to leverage his five minutes of fame into something useful. He still may, I guess, since the show is only half way through the season. But current information as posted by Frank would indicate otherwise.

EPISODE Priscilla: Wow Priscilla looked really good as a zombie. I might just be a cynic, but I feel like Dylan only came to see her because she’s on TV, and he played her. We’ll see what happens in the next episode, but I hope she can get out of that relationship. Frank: I’m really interested in the gay community and everything, but I agree with everyone who says they’re showing too much of Frank and Mike playing kissy face. And is Frank really crying because he won’t be able to see Mike for a few days? Seriously? The way they were talking, it sounded like "saturday" was less than a week away. Zach & Ashley: Ashley’s voice and shrieks when she drinks… So obnoxious. On another note, I actually felt really bad for her when she cried in the car… This episode made me like her a lot more, perhaps because she shows some vulnerability and doesn’t seem like a puppet. I understand Zach’s response to her advances, or lack thereof, though. I respect him more now because he shows that guys can actually control themselves if they want to; he is obviously attracted to Ashley but he can still stop himself from making any irrational decisions. It’s just an awkward situation for both of them because she’s not going to ask why he doesn’t want to have sex and he’s not going to tell her. This storyline is actually the most interesting to me, and I wish they delved more into it. AFTER SHOW Response to Ashley's “I wouldn’t have done anything with him anyway”: Riiight... Did Nate just… merp? Deena swagger jack, anyone? It was so cute when Zach said “I don’t want anyone to think [that Ashley was a *****]” Frank’s obsession with whether or not Zach and Ashley are having sex, and why, is... disturbing.

Well Mike Manning didn't seem to have a problem. And he was shown bringing guys home and making out too. So maybe it's not the show, maybe it's Frank lol

This episode was really boring. I just didn't care anything about it. Zach and Ashley are just annoying me every chance that they get. Can we get better storylines already? I also missed last week's episode, Pride and Prejudice so hopefully they do another marathon or I may have to wait until they show it on MTV2.

Why are Zach and Ashley boring you? I think it's quite original story line. 2 people dating and aren't hooking up. I think it would be boring if we constantly saw the same thing: 2 people like each other have sex. There's plenty of those: Trishelle and Steven Alton and Irulan Robin and Randy Landon and Shavonda Danny and Melinda and so forth This is finally something original.

Danny and Melinda actually didn't have sex right away. They had a similar storyline to Zach and Ashley, except they started dating during the show.

It has nothing to do with them hooking up or not, at least in my opinion. The blonde girl is boring, because she is a cookie cutter model chick who brings nothing to the table with her personality, her desires or goals. Basically you could substitute "X" and they'd have the same impact on this show. Her only notability comes from how she spends all her time trying to please Zach. She is the type of girl that would toss out her entire life previous, just to be with a guy - which is quite sad. (Or at least, that is what is to be assumed from the edit.) I wouldn't say Zach is boring (although I do disagree with many of his positions.) However, he is a one trick pony and I don't even need to see anything more to know where he stands on everything in life. Which leads us to why I feel this season is an abject failure. There is nothing to discover. The lines were drawn an hour into the season. It feels flat, repetitive and yes, boring. You really have to screw up casting when the audience dislikes both the people on the side you agree with and the people on the side you don't. Hey, I am sure they (meaning the entire cast) are a good group of people, but they don't make for compelling television.

Let's not forget to mention if Zach jumped into a woodchipper, Ashley would too.

They were also briefly talking about childhood memories when they were laying in bed together early in the episode. So obviously the two of them have had deeper conversations than what we've been allowed to see on TV. I guess the development of a genuine relationship isn't interesting to the majority of Real World viewers...MTV must think that if you're not having sex or fighting, it's not worth showing.

I really don't know why you would be surprised,Between Alexandra and Nate stories, Zach and Ashley relationship and Priscilla wisdom this season could have been edited really good with some really good conversations(I didn't live in that house but I know these people didn't discuss the pro/cons of gay lifestyles for a month and half) .After this episode Priscilla,Nate, Zach and Alexandra are my favorites.Sam is way to concerned that others are having relations I found her rather obnoxious this episode.I can't stand Ashley she really comes across as scripted , There is nothing genuine about her.

Having sex/not having sex isn't a factor in my reasoning. Nearly all of the places/activities they have gone to/done together are things that showcase Zach's interest (the gym, shooting range, basketball, cowboy club, etc...) not hers. What about her interest? There is next to nothing she has said/done to give us any idea of who she is. It seems she willing to do just about anything just to please him. I find this very sad. Again, since there's no general sense of balance, I wouldn't call what they're doing a relationship. Zach is going with the flow and Ashley is willingly along for the ride. I'm almost certain that whatever talks happen on these 'walks' consist of Zach talking and Ashley agreeing with whatever he says which, I imagine, would be boring and not worth airing.

When he pulled up on a motorcycle your assumptions were all but confirmed. Then he removed his helmet. Priscilla's boyfriend, Dylan, just beat Darth Vader in the "most surprised at what was under the helmet" championship. He looked like someone playing a nerd on a UPN sitcom. Pimples, red hair, freckles, no sign of facial hair -- the guy was a pair of broken glasses away from a Halloween costume. Somehow this fella Dylan took Priscilla to Pound Town (25 points). Hey, Dylan, propose to this woman before she realizes that 99.5 percent of males are better looking, better hangs, and better lays. Frank (Real World, Connor): 20 points. Frank, who is "curbing his drinking" at the insistence of his therapist, cried when his boyfriend, Michael, left the house (20 points). I can't wait until the inevitable episode in which Frank ushers this relationship to a dramatic close with a drunken rampage. Getting into a relationship with Frank is like building your dream house at the base of a live volcano -- great until you have to run for your life. Sam (Real World, Lane): 5 points. During Sam's argument with Zach (5 points), Zach started pointing at Sam and yelling in his best "tough guy" voice, "Whatchu gonna do? Whatchu gonna do?" Everyone who's ever seen 10 minutes of WWF wrestling fully expected him to tear his shirt off and finish with, "When Hulkamania runs wild on you?" Mind you, Zach is a 6-foot-4 football star and Sam is a petite lady who resembles Eminem. Quite a "respectful cowboy," that Zach.

I think if Sam was a man, straight or gay, or a straight woman, we would be getting information on the hookups. As for Priscilla, I think women often get associated with this superficial physical desire (the type, for example, Ashley shows) when I know plenty of beautiful women who love men and women who most would not consider good looking (and no not rich either). It is nice to see. That said he was kind of detached and she seemed way more into him than he did in her.

This is so true. They made a huge casting mistake this season imo. The only person on the show who has a personality for Reality TV is Frank - as much as people may hate him. The rest of them seem like really nice and sweet people but they just don't have the type of personality that is suited for a show like The Real World.

I disagree. I just think it's the wrong mix of people that would have been better off on another season.

Still don't get the "personality fit for reality tv" thing. I enjoy seeing all the interactions, even the ones others consider boring or uneventful. If Ashley really is putting on a show to give the producers no useful edits, I'm interested to see how that turns out because that was always my plan if I ever made it into reality tv. Overall a pretty good episode, full of funny quotes. Frank in the confessionals wearing his bow tie and pink shirt gets more disturbing/irritating every time though.

I agree that not everything has to be drama to be watchable. I think the "personality" issue is that some shows cast only certain types of people to get the same formulaic results time after time with different fresh faces. I am sure there are potential reality formats in which most people could fit but they don't often go about reinventing the wheel to their tricycle.

Me too. But I think the problem is, the interactions between the cast aren't creating interesting storylines.
