Behind the Screen: The Real World: Portland - Marlon Williams

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

What exactly are you guys using to determine what makes someone the "best" or "coolest" African American on the show? It depends on exactly what you individually like about someone, ya know? Like if you like someone who is honest but chill, then I'd say Leroy, Brandon, and Will are the "best" in that category. If you like someone who is brash, candid, and keeps it "real", then you might go with Tyrie, Stephen from Denver, Presto and Jasmine. Even though they're all the same race, everyone is different..which is why I'm not understanding why people are pooling them together.. I don't know much about Marlon, or Jay as one of my friends calls him, but from what our friend from school has said is that he's not a very chill person a lot of the time. He has a temper, but is fun to be around. The most accurate comparison would probably be Tyrie.
My sentiments exactly. Thought I don't get why people think Swifty is the only one to "play it up for the cameras" Tyrie did too on Exes when he got into it with Jasmine. I don't see why Will gets all the love though I liked his competition "he who shall not be named" better. I still think people hated on him because he won the competition just like with Ayiiia. Hard from the Bronx? As if she was the only one who played up the rough upbringing. This is pretty silly.

I agree with you on that d-bag from Hollywood. I didn't mind him, but you can tell he was a huge ah. As for Naomi, ever since that episode where Nany and her got in Cooks face for a petty reason, I dislike her.
Nostalgic#34
Naomi did have a attitude I'll give you that. But I still think Nany and Naomi simply did that just to spite Cooke and because she was new.

Let's try to get the conversation back to Marlon, please.

He has a clothing line being released in 2013... Pre-sales right now. :) WAVY Cartel

Lol, this is about as productive as Adam Royer's (and I like Adam as well as Marlon) Not saying it won't take off but people will be like, "...and you are?"
ILoveRW#38
Cartel? Do you get a free bag of coke with every purchase?

Uh no. Judging by your screenname you must be new here. Smh @you. Seriously though welcome

Leroy isn't just the coolest black guy in years on the Real World, he's the coolest RW guy in years period. In fact he's the coolest RW guy since Jacquese from San Diego (who just happens to be black also). Theo and Syrus and Tech were cool. We haven't only seen the angry black guy. That's just who you remember because if they aren't getting screen time being aggressive, usually you don't care or acknowledge them. Leroy is the mst likable guy, so he's one you remember. People focus too much on race if it's a black castmember. No one says the skankiest white girl or most ******* white guy. There have been plenty of contenders in those categories and yet no one mentions the WHITE aspect.

Don't bring up old aruments; theres a reason why no one hasn't continued the convo. Recently, people have said "******* white guy" refering to Trey. just throwing that out there..

Actually she has a point. And if we discontinued the convo its because it was just ignorant.

"Quite literally the son of a preacher man, Marlon was raised with strong religious values and beliefs, which causes inner conflict when you love sex as much as he does. He doesn't want to disappoint his father, who raised him after his parents divorced when he was six months old. The first time Marlon laid eyes on his mother was in the coffin at her funeral when he was in the seventh grade. As a military brat, Marlon traveled the world with his father but never stayed in one place long enough to make lifelong friends. In high school, Marlon excelled at football and became something of a local celebrity when he was a linebacker for Texas Tech. He twice received Honorable mention in the All-Big 12 conference and was even trying to go pro, before being cut by the Canadian Football League. After his football career faded, Marlon went through a low point and in his depression, did some things that his roommates will be shocked to hear about. Marlon is in a better place now and is currently working towards a degree in Industrial Engineering. People in Lubbock still recognize him as Marlon the football star, but he hates that people judge him for no longer playing. Marlon sees coming to Portland as a chance to start fresh without having to deal with people's preconceived notions about who he is today."

What was the point in posting that? In short I never knew his mom died. Why wasn't that mentioned here? Military brat? Love him already

I love Marlon, its Leroy with a personality.

Because we can go to the MTV.com site. So at the time I was asking why you posted his bio...

Why are you comparing him to Leroy? And Leroy did have personality, too.

They get posted this way each season.
Nostalgic#53
Damn I feel so out of the loop, -_- No harm intended by the way, Navy.
YvanEhtNioj#54
lol It's nothing dude; I love this love-hate relationship I'm also confused by the "Leroy with personality" comment, lol he wasn't a shadow or anything.
Nostalgic#55
One last thing, Leroy and that guitar song he made about girls was my favorite. Hopefully Marlon will stand on his own.

Why can't I compare him to Leroy, they both has the same presence to me. Leroy's personality was basic, he could probably make me laugh, but he was nothing out of the ordinary.

You guys are getting really annoying comparing every new black guy to the other black guys that were on the show. And Leroy had a personality, he's hilarious, but that's my personal opinion.

I can compare him to who ever I want. Whats really annoying is how everything people say has to relate back to race. Only in America.

1. I'm not American. 2. Yes, you all the other 10 people who already made that comment can do whatever you want, but it's still annoying. 3. Maybe you didn't mean it in a racial way, but most people do so that's always my first assumption.

I mean it doesn't take a genius to see the clear comparisons (that aren't race based) between Marlon and Leroy. Its like how people were saying Trey was the new Johnny before St. Thomas aired. And how this seasons Johnny is the new Adam Royer.
Nostalgic#61
WTF? Did I just read?! How the hell is Johnny like Adam Royer, lmao.
