Behind the Screen: The Real World: Portland - Hot and Bothered

The reality TV landscape has never been more crowded or more diverse. From dating shows to competition series to docusoaps, networks and streamers are betting big on unscripted content.

What sets the great shows apart is their ability to create genuine moments — the kind of unscripted drama that no writer's room could manufacture. That's what keeps fans coming back.

Do they HAVE to find jobs in order to stay in the house. Cause if they don't, then I really don't get why she would leave, especially since it's so early, and they only job hunted for what, a day...

So Joi is an idiot for leaving, can we all agree on that. You stay for how long, maybe a week, why audition...

She didn't know she was going to end up leaving for one. Has nothing to do with why she auditioned.

Are they even really going to miss her because it sure doesn't seem like it. They really edited her the hell out of the show like it was nothing.

Kind of a random, drama free departure. Jordan is right in that it isn't about the wage. In the end, it comes down to exposure. That aside, Joi seems to be doing just fine (now). C'est la vie.

It's weird, they have them say "work together" in the intro for this season even though they aren't. Last season they left they out of the intro and they did work together.

I wouldn't say that just yet.

So Joi leaves because she does not want the job? ... Well, I guess that is her choice. An unfortunate one but I can understand it. In the first four seasons, they all worked more less independent of each other. It was not until Miami RW5 that they started working together

It's the premise of the show. They are not going to change it for two words.

That was....abrupt.

I finished Miami the other day and all that money went to waste as they ultimately failed to start the business.

I really think the only reason she went on the show is for more exposure, plain and simple.
WallyT09#45
That was a really quick departure from the show
Desertpuma#46
Actually Joi would love to do a Challenge according to her Twitter when I asked her a couple of weeks ago. The "work together" part of the Intro has been there since RW5.

She's not the first though.

Brooklyn, DC, and New Orleans II also did not have them have a group job, and let them find their own jobs, although New Orleans II did provide volunteer opportunities.

I hope Nia comes in this episode

But didn't B2NO have Preston and Ashlee work as a team?

They left "work together" out of the Brooklyn, DC, and New Orleans II intros. They left it incorrectly out of St. Thomas and put it incorrectly in this one.

I agree with all who are saying that her decision was dumb. But I'm more disappointed that the roommates didn't even try to convince her to stay. They were just like "you want to leave? Ok, bye!"

Especially Jordan. Smh.

So I'm guessing Jess didn't continue off to do the military? I thought ROTC students go straight in?

Not all the time. I'm glad I left because they probably would've sent me to Iraq or Afghanistan. Other than that, I would've did my 20 years.

i don't think they know/knew each other well enough to have a vested interest in each other, i.e....trying to get someone to stay.

RIP, poor True Life. Just wanted to get that in there. lol. I am loving this season. Portland=excellent choice.

They can go straight in but they are not required to.

That makes zero sense. Averey barely knows Johnny but is woman enough to sleep with him on the first month? Hell no. She needs to see Temptation.
Nostalgic#61
Johnny should do good here at the job. This is right up his alley.
