Behind the Screen: Real World DC: Out of the Closet and Onto the Stage

The reality TV landscape has never been more crowded or more diverse. From dating shows to competition series to docusoaps, networks and streamers are betting big on unscripted content.

What sets the great shows apart is their ability to create genuine moments — the kind of unscripted drama that no writer's room could manufacture. That's what keeps fans coming back.

Who's Josh!?

It's been nice to see Emily and Ty take a bit of a backseat for awhile. Glad they're not overkilling that storyline. I feel bad saying this, but Mike's story....meh. Josh should stop singing. Immediately.

It's funny because they all seem to be so boring. At least, the story lines that have been chosen are rather boring. I don't blame the cast as much as I blame the editors.

I'm missing the episode. :( I'll catch a rerun later on.

I like the slower paced seasons better. I'm liking D.C. overall, but Josh and Mike are sometimes a little boring.

Mike's brother is like.. "Who's gay?" oops.
Wilderwolf#9
When Mike's brother said "He's ********, not gay." He was basically saying my brother is straight......

Erika needs to put down the haterade.
RockSteadyVybes#11
Josh can NOT SING! omg! This band is totally using him just to get on TV to show everyone that they're actually decent. Ok, ok...Mike's conversation with his Mom was nice. I'm glad it worked out for him.
Wilderwolf#12
Awww I love Mike's mom, she's so sweet, loving, and accepting. =)

After seeing the cast members call this "THA BEST EPIYSODE EVARRRRR" I was going to catch a rerun at some time. After seeing the huge surge of people posting here...I think I'll just skip it.

Im "listening" to the episode while doing my programming assignment. Needless to say, I don't think im missing much.

Apparently... Josh has a "look". I don't like the way he's acting.
SuperGraham#17
I liked this episode. Loved Mike and his parents made the show for me.
Gucci Mane#18
LOL at Erika calling her bf 14 times! Glenn Close much? Now all she needs to do is sit in her room while flicking the light off and on.

Mike's storyline was great. I love seeing cast members grow into themselves. Josh can't sing. He is actually kind of a tool. I like him better in the background. Erika can sing and will do things with her talent, but she needs to tone down on the drama with her boyfriend. Plus, people's cars DO break down every now and then. PLUS...what about this episode warranted an aftershow?
mcis1979#20
Yeah Mike is very entertaining his brother was hotter though....
jhl182#21
When do they film these aftershows? Is it right after that segment is finished filming, they leave the house to film it, then go right back to the house?

No. Long after filming has wrapped.

Josh might as well have been singing Come on be my baby tonight. hahaha Here is the band's myspace. They should get a new singer.

I thought the first 30 minutes were really pretty boring, but the last 30 and after show were good. Mike's meeting with his mom and her reaction were great. Erica seemed really psycho on the show this time, but with the after show she was really cool and I'd say humble, about her flaws. I'm starting to think one reason why the season is less-watched is the whole bi-dude thing...it's weird to me.

I think the same could be said though if they had put a very effeminent gay guy in the house...ppl are just ignorant & stupid but there have been more successful real world seasons with gay people on them that cover a wide range of personalities so your opinions on that matter are void. Whatever happened to the seasons that didn't have to always have 1 gay person on it? But I love Mike just like everyone else and I don't think that has anything to do with why this season is so unwatched and has "bad ratings".

That makes no sense at all.

Mike is one of the few people I actually LIKE on this season. I know people can be ignorant but I can't imagine people not watching because of him! There have been lots of gay roommates before, and Brooklyn had the transgendered girl. That has to be more uncomfortable for people than a ******** guy.
Zereaux#28
Is it just me or has Emily been saying the same **** all season? "Happiness shouldn't come from a boyfriend, it should come from yourself." She is really getting on my nerves.

She does tend to give off this air of superiority occassionally, like she's so much more enlightened than all those other pathetic girls who need boyfriends to be happy. I mean, I get it, she's just having a good time being on her own at this point in her life, but not everyone needs to be like her. That being said, she doesn't annoy me ALL the time like two of the other girls, so she's still in my top two females on this season. Plus I think I do that same "I'm so much more enlightened and self-aware than everyone else" thing too, so, I get it. But you have to learn to keep it to yourself, because no one else wants to hear it.

I think why its less watched is because this season is random as heck . Alot of the castmemebers tend to disseappear than reappear and then there random promblems that have not been built up at all like Cancun or Brooklyn not put randomly into a epsiode and then solved like most things on this season and yes Im glad there not drawing everything out but honestly like the tension between certain people or Erika randomly strating to act crazy is just hard to follow sometimes ,They seem to focus alot on Mike and honestly I just don't think his story of sexuality is that complex as to some extent Pedro or Davis. these people barely go out or interact like is strange they don't seem to have that much long conversation and such.Lastly Ashley is really annoying and so is Emily the whole know it all make everything realte to me attention crap is strating to get really old.

I think I have to take that back somewhat - personally I've found Mike's story boring and melodramatic, and I applied it to others who may think like me and who would turn the TV off. I'm sure there's people like this, just not enough to matter.
