Real World DC: Ep. 7 - Discussion

How ironic that I'm watching the episode of friends where Ross pretends he's dead to get people to care about him.

I guess im the only one, but I actually found it funny when Ashley told Erica to "go the **** home then." It was as if Ashley was tired of walking on eggshells around her. You could tell that Erica wanted sympathy when she said she was going home, so when Ashley was just like "whateva, go home", I think it surprised her. And I usually hate Ashley.

Agreed! And I can't even fault Ashley because she reminds me of me at that age. I mean, maybe she's a little hot-headed and tends to over-react, but so did I at 22. For crying out loud and I'm Italian thats just how I rolled. She'll grow. ;)

The thing is, I'm not speaking about Ashley having a gut feeling that Erika would say she will go home. I'm not talking about Ashley or anyone else disliking Erika because of lying about cancer. I'm saying I thought Ashley was being really mean after Erika said she was going home. For me, Ashley and Erika are similar (though Ashley hasn't lied about being critically sick) - they both seem to be overly dramatic and want attention for every little thing going on with them. So it was quite interesting to see her be so dismissive of Erika, to me. I don't think she has to like Erika or that she had to beg her to not leave, but I thought she got quite harsh.

At first, Ashley did not tell Erika to go home. She said "if you do not think you are going to learn from this experience, you should go home", which makes complete sense. Once the argument escalated, it just turned into "go home then!" While that probably wasn't the best way to end the argument, Ashley made a very valid point at that time. So I kind of actually understand her reasoning. I do not know if Ashley realizes how she appears to other people (like when Emily said "are you serious?" to her in the kitchen).

Which is funny because everyone seems to have to walk on eggshells around Ashley or else she'll lose it and go completely crazy and turn into Medusa on everyone. I hate Ashley so ******* much.

I agree with you. That's why I was surprised to see Ashley get so snippy and rough with Erika.

Perhaps I didn't word what I meant well. It wasn't really the fact that Ashley suggested that maybe Erika should go home. It was more the level of harshness towards her overall. It was almost like she was annoyed that Erika overheard her in conversation with the other girls or something and just wanted to get rid of her and not deal with Erika making an issue over that. Like I said earlier, they seem kind of similar, and to see Ashley get to the level she did was odd to me, and kind of cold.

True. But I still loved Ashley this episode. She was such a *****. Not the annoying kind, like she usually is. I wonder how Josh feels watching this season so far, they definately trolled him in the preview for next week.

I didn't get that. Erica was acting like a spoiled brat and Ashely called her on it. I don't see why Emily asked her if she was serious. I just don't get it. Why does Emily feel to need to get involved in everything.

Because Ashley is a brat just as much as Erika, but at least she doesn't lie about cancer.

But is Ashley truly that intelligent....or is she jealous that some of the spotlight is off of her? I think she's also a character that craves attention. Idk - they're both insane at times, it seems.

It seems like the only arguement you guys have against Erika is that she lied about cancer. If you hadn't known that she lied about it, then what other arguements would you have against her?

I Agree!

Another plausible arguement is that Erika was pissed because she knew she had no personality therefore she wasn't going to be shown on the show. She picked on the easiest person to offend and thus created the drama there was in this episode. All planned.

My thoughts on the cast after Episode 7: Ty, Callie, Emily, Andrew, Mike = I'm still okay with all of them. I'm going to give Josh as much attention as the editors do... As for the Ashley and Erika situation, I seriously thought I'd 100% be on Erika's side going into this episode because of how Ashley has acted in the past few episodes. But, for the most part I was really neutral. I thought they both did things that were bratty. Erika shouldn't have made a big deal in the restaurant when everyone wanted to eat....they both were in the wrong in the kitchen...and Ashley shouldn't have said the Ian story comment at the end of the episode. When Erika went outside of the restaurant at the end of the episode, the LAST person that should have went outside with her was Ashley. Her being around made it worse. Period. I did not think she meant anything by "you should go home then" because I do believe what she said made sense about if the experience wasn't going to benefit Erika, then she should leave. But I didn't think Ashley was the right person to be talking to Erika at the time. Same with when Emily and Callie were trying to convince Erika to stay...Ashley needed to just let Erika go for a while. And Ashley made the comment "Don't be fake with me, stop playing games and wasting my time." Um, sorry, but I heard Erika say about three or four times that she doesn't want to be friends. I think she was being pretty clear. Oh and when Ashley said "I'm tired of walking on egg shells around her"...I had to laugh because I'm sure after she said that the rest of the cast thought "that's how we feel about you." At the end of the episode, I'd say I was more on Erika's side than Ashley's, but I understood Ashley's side a lot more than I was expecting to do. Oh and on a sidenote, not that it matters because it has nothing to do with the episode, but I hold nothing against Erika for the cancer thing. Yes, it was a disgusting thing to do, but she seems to really regret it and she knows it was a stupid thing to do. I can't hold it against her. That situation had nothing to do with my life...I didn't see it play out in front of me on a show. So, yeah, I guess I really don't care. I guess I'm more forgiving than some others.

Buck, that is the best post I've read all night. I agree with everything that you said and I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't care about the cancer thing.

I really like Ashley. I love a good ***** and I don't think she's a bad person. She's just immature and I'd rather someone be a ***** and own it over someone who is a *****, but won't admit it and is hypocritical.

I've already said this in this forum and I'll say it again. More than half of my family from my moms side has died of cancer. My grandfather is currently stage three and can go at any moment. Sorry I don't think the exact way you do.

Like I said she was in High School when she lied about having a life threatening disease. It was High School people, Like we never pretended to be sick? Get over it.

I fully and completely agree! I just posted the same thing in Erica's thread...she was clearly mentally ill and unstable. I don't know the girl, nor did I even see the edited take of an event that happened years ago. She gets the benefit of the doubt from me. I'm not judging her. People can change.

My sister had cancer. I'm not offended by it. Erika knows it was stupid. She was young and in a bad place. Who am I to judge? I wasn't in her shoes.

Well, the fact that she admitted attempting suicide so that people would pay more attention to her doesn't really help her cause. From what I have seen so far, Erika has the typical attention craver edit. Too bad there's a bigger one on this cast.

Being in High School doesn't give a person a pass on a pathetic statement.
