Behind the Screen: The Real World: Cancun - Ratings

The reality TV landscape has never been more crowded or more diverse. From dating shows to competition series to docusoaps, networks and streamers are betting big on unscripted content.

What sets the great shows apart is their ability to create genuine moments — the kind of unscripted drama that no writer's room could manufacture. That's what keeps fans coming back.

I was wondering why they weren't doing aftershows with this cast? Anyone know? I must admit I'm one of the ones who found Brooklyn's cast really appealing. I don't know what it was, but Chet & Ryan just sucked me in from day one. And the others followed. I don't think any of the cast members on this current season will have that impact on me. BUT, I'd say they're a pretty interesting bunch and I'll still watch.

I was wondering the same thing. I just don't understand the lack of promotion. Oh and I agree with you about Chet & Ryan, I loved them. Its only the second episode, give it time. :)
Dartagnan#65
Yeah, I think ratings will be higher though. Drama usually attracts people.
saltvinegar#66
Maybe they realized that The Aftershows ruined the Duel 2 reunion.

A lot of people like this season so far. It's only been 2 episodes!

I'm not suprised the ratings weren't good. It wasn't promoted good, no one knew it was even a new season unless your a true fan or Vevmo reader. I asked one of my friends did she watch the new Real World the other day and she said she had no idea that Real World even had a new season.
HonestHenry#69
Sometimes I think that Chimps would do a better job at managing the promotions department at MTV.

I think it's the lack of promotion, but also maybe people just losing in the show because they didn't like Brooklyn (which I don't understand, because I liked it). Alot of people I know have started watching it again, and a alot of my friends that haven't watched the show for a while have said that they were excited for this season.
HonestHenry#71
How could anyone not like the Brooklyn season? It was best season since Back to New York. It is probably the frat guys that hated the Brooklyn season.

I agree. MTV/BMP needs to step it up.
Dartagnan#73
HonestHenry, you finally make a good point. Chimps could do better promotion.

I caught it on a commercial, otherwise I wouldn't have known + I knew it had to be coming on soon since I'm a regular viewer of the show and the timing is about right. But yea, I think because it's in Cancun that it may grab more viewers, and the fact that it seems to have a lot of drama/fights.
Dartagnan#75
My opinion too Michelle. The drama usually brings people in.

The Top 10 will be posted today. I'm reading the cable recap and it says that there is a delay for the charts due to the July 4th weekend. They should be posted later this morning, according to Media Life.

I would think that the fact that it's summer could hurt the ratings too... I know with nothing much on tv I just plain don't have my tv on as much....

Well, it looks like Spongebob is doing quite well. Here's what I saw (mind you, I don't know if this is the right one), and checking from another website, RW Cancun isn't even in the top 25:

That's primetime yes but I'm not sure either if thats the correct one. That looks like its for the overall shows for the afternoon-evening timeslots. I'm sure the show isn't that bad. Unless Brooklyn turned some of the viewers off. Thanks Mold.
Anonymous#80
I doubt it was that. A lot of people came back to the show because of Brooklyn, I'm surprised cause Episode 2 was good, I watch it every time it comes on.

How do you figure? Brooklyn got better ratings than Cancun. With the premiere only getting 1.4 million (the worst ever) I'm not too surprised that it's not in the top 20.
Anonymous#82
IMO, the ratings are what the general audience wants to see.
blanky667#83
Molds, I think we will never see Real World on that list. If we want to get the big number, than you'll have to pay big money for it. But I doubt Real World will ever reach over 3 million viewers. The chart we are looking for is the 18-34 Demographic Chart, which will be posted later on today at Media Life.

I think what she meant was that maybe a lot of people disliked the Brooklyn season, that they decided to not watch this season. Not saying I agree, but I believe that is what Alexa was getting at.

It did? I was just wondering because everyone I watch it with and from other sites say that its boring. I disagree with it though. Also how did the finale do?

That would be the one.
saltvinegar#86
I know a lot of people who were very turned off by Brooklyn. I also belive that Brooklyns ratings did have a decline through the season. Also Brooklyn received 10x more promotion than Cancun.
Anonymous#87
Well boring is what got the ratings...:). Yes, there is actually a RW Brooklyn ratings thread. Can't wait for tonight!

The finale had 1.6 million viewers. Real World Brooklyn dominated the ratings until mid to late season when the show just focused on pranks and less on... well less on stuff that are interesting. The last 3 episodes were supposed to be the best but due to the already low ratings, there wasn't that much viewers. But, it still dominated in its early stages. The reunion made #10, IIRC.
saltvinegar#89
The only thing that I can even remember from the Brooklyn season is the pranks, Ryan being called to war, and the girls blaming JD for something he didn't have any part in on the last night.Which turned eveyone against him.

Yeah I absolutely liked the last couple of episodes and some of the stuff that was in the previews weren't in the show. I just don't get why they omitted certain things like that scene where Kate and Chet were having the disccusion about is he gay or not. And the one with Baya where she stated that they were criticizing Kate, I wanna say, after knowing her for a week and a half.

I'm surprised you didn't remember JD stabbing Katelynn in the back by telling the boys that she really was transgendered, EVEN IF they already knew, it is still very wrong. I'm surprised you didn't remember Sarah's phone call from her dad? There were very memorable moments on that season. One of the best was when Katelynn and JD had that conversation in the car and that dinner in the first episode when they were opening up to each other and it was a powerful moment, IMO. (Of course, this is the last that we saw from "Good JD") But nonetheless, Brooklyn did better than Cancun. Its proof that real life issues CAN deliver. But Cancun is good so far, I hope for a big pick-up in the ratings.
