Behind the Screen: Pretty Little Liars - ABC Family

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

I really like it as well. I read the 1st book, when I was 13, and I'm now reading the 2nd book...

Rosewood is a perfect little town. So quiet and pristine, you'd never guess it holds so many secrets. Some of the ugliest ones belong to the prettiest girls in town -- Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily, four estranged friends whose darkest secrets are about to unravel. One year ago, Alison, the Queen Bee of their group, disappeared and the girls swore they'd never tell what really happened that night. They thought their secrets would bond them together, but just the opposite is true. Then again, who's to say what the truth is in Rosewood. It seems everyone in town is lying about something. Now, as the mystery surrounding Alison's disappearance resurfaces, the girls begin getting messages from "A," saying – and threatening – things only Alison would know. But it couldn't be Alison. Could it? Whoever it is, they seem to know all the girls' secrets, and seem to be watching their every move. The girls are friends again, but will they be there for each other if their dark secrets come to light?
Is anyone else watching this show? I have seen the first three episodes, and I have to admit, I really like it. I want to read the books now, has anyone read them?

I really like it as well. I read the 1st book, when I was 13, and I'm now reading the 2nd book. The show is similar to the book, but obviously not exactly. :) My favorite "liar" is probably Hanna.

Yeah, I can't wait to get the books, of course I have already read all the info I could find on them so I pretty much know what happens, now I wonder if the show will go along with the books or if they will sway a bit like Vampire Diaries has.

Great! Well I am counting on you guys because I can tell this is going to be one of those "must discuss after" type of shows so be sure to stop and leave your thoughts after the next episode. Kat have you read the books? I was shocked that it was on ABC family as well, I think it would do great on a major network.

I have not read the books, but I can't wait to. I hear they are really good...have you read them? Is the storyline staying true to the book?

I have not read the books, but I have read summaries of them and it seems that so far other than a few changes in character hair color and such, it seems to be pretty true to them. If it does, there are going to all kinds of twists and turns and I wonder how long they will drag out the mystery...just one season and then move on or if they will elaborate further than the books have gone so far.

I watch it, it's good. I haven't seen the 2nd or 3rd episode yet. Haven't had the time....but I plan on it! :D

Thats good. I wonder how the mystery will play out...they have to drag it out somehow to keep the series going...i hope, i'm definitely hooked;)

This is going to sound very juvenile, but has anyone on here actually texted their number to get "secret" messages every week?? What's up with that??? Do they actually give you "inside" info?? lol

LOL, you know, I haven't noticed anything like that, but I probably would do it if they didn't charge anything for it, haha.

I can't believe I've been suckered into this show. It's actually really good for abcfamily. I'm enjoying it. :D

I am gunna' watch the two latest episodes right now. I haven't seen them yet. I am hooked!

Last night's episode was a really good one, I have come to the conclusion that Allison was certifiable, LOL. I can't wait to see if this plays out anything like the books...speaking of, I need to read them soon, I have only read the recaps from other people, LOL.

The mid-season finale was great!!! I can't believe we have to wait so long for more! I really don't think Ian is 'A' because that would be too obvious. I think 'A' could possibly be Allisons brother
rwdenverfan#18
I think Hanna saw whoever A was and was going to tell the other three (who thought it was Ian because their names were on the tree) but A knew Hanna knew who it was so he or she ran her over.

That's what I was thinking too :)

Everytime I think I want to give up on this show, it sucks me back in! Who was it that A had the girls dig uo tonight?! And why does A want them in jail, then (s)he can't torment them anymore? I really want to know how this plays out! After seeing tonight I really think that A is having Mike work against his sister, and that's why he's acting so funky!

I have a theory (Put it in spoilers because I have been reading little hints from blogs so it can be highly true).
Spoiler I don't think Jenna/Garret are A but I think A is two different groups. I do believe Jenna/Garret hit Ali over the head but I also think that the other A buried Ali. I also think Jason secretly know what Garret did but he just can't seem to really think it's true because he was so wasted the night she passed. And as for the main cast getting arrested whatever they dug up is leading authorities to think they had a plan in killing Ali. And at the end of the episode when the waitress said "You have pretty eyes" it's almost certain it can't be Jenna since she's blind. That's why there are 2 A's. Because Jenna/Garret set up the liars with the notes at the barn whether they know they other A or not I have no idea. But hopefully Season 2B is a lot better then this first half.

I'm wondering how similar the books are to the television show...that would explain a lot for me.

From what I've gathered from cast/producers/writers interviews they are doing it completely different.

I actually think that are multiple A's. I think that Jenna is most likely not one of them. My guess would be that A is sending the texts and leaving notes for them, but getting other people, like Jenna, Garret, and Mike to do the dirty work. I'd be surprised if they made A Jenna because they've pretty much told us that Jenna and Garret killed Ali and set up the girls tonight. I think the show will really start to pick uo when they get a time frame on how much longer the've got. We saw on Lost that once they were told how many seasons they were getting, they stopped doing whole seasons of filler. Did anyone else catch Hannah complimenting Mya's boots? Could those be the boots that we saw A buying on the end of one episode?

In all honesty, I've seen one episode and it wasn't bad (probably would have liked it more if I had seen all the episodes before it...but still). I am just surprised this is still on the air. I mean - seriously - how much longer can this realistically be dragged out?

I really don't get this series. I tried to watch it but it was just not something I could get into. Maybe I missed something important in the beginning I could never figure out. I much prefer Switched at Birth in the ABC Family line up. Something about having two deaf people converse in sign language is kind of cool.

Imo it's a show that you really need to have started from the begining. If you try to start halfway through it's too hard to keep up. Hell, I startedat episode 1 and still get lost! Last night when I saw that police officer guy I had no clue who he was until they mentioned that he'd been the one that got fired last season! With all the dark haired, tan guys it gets hard to keep track of who's who!!!

I've seen the first 13 or so episodes, it's pretty interesting, I've been watching lately, solid show with cool shockers at the end of episodes.
saltvinegar#30
I'm a sucker for this show!! It gets me every week! That finale was... WOAH! But, in true PLL fashion I have more questions now than ever before! I swear, this is worse than Lost!

SpoilerSo angry. I know Mona isn't the only A, just part of the A-Team, but it still bothered me that they said they weren't going in the same direction as the books and they technically did.
