Behind the Screen: Other RW/RR Challenge-Like Shows?

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

Other RW/RR Challenge-Like Shows?

Oh of course, but the general premise of being stranded on an island still was there. It was clear what they were going for, the big problem was that they used young adults instead of middle aged-old ones and gave them an unlimited supply of booze. If anything, they should have fed them and given them no beer and see what happened.

Opposite Worlds on SyFy has a lot of the same elements. There is two teams, one that lives in a futuristic world and the other lives in the past world. They compete in a challenges to see which team will choose which world they live in for the week, after that each team chooses one person to be the "protected" who is safe from being eliminated but then America votes on which of the protected people gets to be the decider, the decider chooses one person from each team to go into the elimination round against each other. They also have another voting poll for favorite player of the week, the favorite player gets a reward and the least favorite player gets a punishment. which is also voted on by America.

Yep I watched simply for the elimination rounds. I like how they were live, but most were very disappointing because 10 seconds in there was a clear winner :|

Have any of you ever watched "Redneck Island"? A bunch of redneck types are put on an island and they compete in challenges, most of which involve a reward of lots of beer, and then vote someone off; the final 3 then compete for the big prize (if I'm remembering correctly, it was $100,000.00). I don't know if it's going to be on again this year but an interesting challenge-related note is that one of the producers of the show is the beloved Timmy Beggy. The host of the show is Stone Cold Steve Austin. I like it for the challenges, which can be pretty silly but still competitive.

It's identical to Survivor without a jury and without a token minority player.

Animal Planet used to have this show called King of the Jungle that was pretty awesome, or at least 10 year old me thought so, but it's almost like AP destroyed all evidence that it ever existed. The best Challenge-esque shows though will always be Nickelodeon's Legends of the Hidden Temple and Guts.

Oh my god, I remember this show! If my memory serves me right, the main prize was being a host of a new tv series about animals, and the challenges were pretty entertaining. Too bad there's no way we can rewatch it.

big brother is nothing compared to the mtv challenges i think the mtv challenges on big brother canada and usa are potatos nothing compared to the ones mtv the challenge also big brother usa and canada always do the same themes and format over and over again the one thing i hate about big brother canada and usa and cant stand is how the cast members or as they call it houseguests always say they are vets of the big brother universe game in which they are not because its only there first time in the big brother house the cast members or as big brother canada and usa call it houseguests should just say that they have degrees mds phds and masters in big brother ollogy and big brother nomics because they are not vets of the big brother univerise game if the cast of big brother canada and usa were vets then they would be doing at least 3 to 10 seasons of big brother and most of them would be mutli time champions

The Island was nothing like Survivor. When the first promos for the Island came on, I was so excited because I thought it would be like Survivor but I was wrong. When I say that I would like a challenge season like Survivor or Big Brother, I mean that I want the exact same game and elimination rules. After all the whining we were subjected to on The Island, can you imagine how much worse it would have been if they had to build their own shelter and cook over an open fire? It would also be interesting to see how a Tribal Council would go with the challenge cast. In the challenges, there are power players that seem to dominate most seasons, but in a Big Brother format, one of the less successful players could pull off a win in a HOH competition and put up two power players at once. I would love to see how that would play out. Hmm...maybe what I really want is for CBS to team up with MTV and invite some of the challenge cast members to be on one of their shows. Pure fantasy, I know.

I would definitely go with I Love Money because it brought together alumni who appeared on the "Of Love Shows" (Flavor of Love, Rock of Love etc.) just as the challenge brought together alumni from Real World and Road Rules. Also if you enjoy the challenges, you will definitely enjoy Big Brother and to a lesser extent Survivor.

I think people would enjoy Survivor moreso than Big Brother.

Oh and I Love Money was probably the most Similar to The Challenge. Because as stated it brought together various people from the "of love" shows. And honestly in some cases I feel like I love Money was better than the challenge. Main because in the Three seasons that aired. The casts have been VERY different. It wasn't just the same people everytime(with a few exceptions). And people actually thought for themselves and didn't just allow people to control the game like they do on the challenge. Plus there was a sense of fun and comedy and the drama was hilarious usually. And it never once took itself Seriously. In some ways it was like how the challenges used to be in the beginning.

And the challenges were hilarious! Screaming contest, racing with huge *****, or when the teams had to shed a tear or spit as far as possible, etc. It was not extreme at all but still intense.

Can someobe help me with? I remember when I was a little kid and watched tv and there was one show, i do not remember the name but there was something to do with the keys. There was like group of people and some old building and people went into rooms, single or pairs, and there was some challenge and they needed to get the key. I do not know what happened with the key. I also remember that if someone messed up or something they had to go to cage and the host give them lot of keys and only one opened it. Some of them were lucky and got out really fast, others spend lot of time there. I really want to know what the name was of the show :D

I have always been intrigued by this show but I have never gotten the chance to actually see it. I'm gonna try it tomorrow since I'm not watching anything on wednesdays.
