For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

By Tenley Woodman Age isn’t the only difference between Beth Stolarczyk and the other contestants on MTV’s “Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Gauntlet III,” debuting Wednesday night at 10. “I was cast a long time ago,” said Stolarczyk, 38, part of “The Real World: Los Angeles” house in 1993. “The casting was done differently. A lot of these people are trashy, low-class people. They aren’t educated. I don’t fit in with that crowd.” This season the opinionated reality star must out-wrestle, claw and fight a crop of “Real World” and “Road Rules” alumni at least 10 years her junior for a chance at $400,000 in cash and prizes in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The competition includes Charlestown’s Chris “CT” Tamburello (“The Real World: Pa ris”), Billerica’s Danny Jamieson (“The Real World: Austin”) and Coral Smith (“The Real World: Back to New York”). Stolarczyk, an Ohio University graduate, has a reputation for being a shrew from previous “Real World/Road Rules” challenges. “A lot of horrible things have happened to me on these challenges, but I’m a very positive person and I have hope that this could be the time where the rules will work to my advantage, where it will be based on (skill), not popularity,” Stolarczyk said. “I mentally prepare myself for the worst.” One of those moments occurred on “Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Inferno II” when cast mate Tonya Cooley (“The Real World: Chicago”) threw Stolarczyk’s luggage into a swimming pool. But that didn’t prepare her for her first day on “Gauntlet III.” “I was surprised to see CT there,” Stolarczyk said. Tamburello, 27, was kicked off “Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Inferno III” for punching Davis Mallory (“The Real World: Denver”) in the face. Stolarczyk’s season of “The Real World” was the first to send a cast mate home for questionable conduct. “He (Tamburello) should not be there. He clearly has problems. He should not be participating in a show where he could hurt somebody,” she said. Attempts to contact Tamburello were not successful. “It’s one thing to go and play a game and be strategic and figure out a way to win, but it is another thing to cross the line and do things that could really hurt somebody. I am definitely against that,” Stolarczyk said. “I look at these people and think, ‘Who raised these people?’ ” [ via BostonHearald ]

Awesome to see this in the Hearld (although I must admit I am more of a Globe Reader unless I need subway fare.) I am going to agree with Beth and say that there was no reason CT should have been allowed on this Challenge after punching Davis. If he would have sucker punched Susie would he have been invited back? There is no difference, Assault is Assault! Should BMP and MTV Networks continue to reward violence by condoning it season after season and inviting back criminals like CT? Disgusting. I know CT stated that he did something this season that is going to make him the most hated man in America (Wow, does he have high hopes for ratings!) I am going to go on record right now and say I don't think that there is very much he could do that would place him in any lower standing with me. He is the bottom of the MTV barrel as far as I see it.

CT was, is, and always will be total trash. I remember his season in Paris when he got into a fight with a local Parisian. The guy literally was keeping his hands behind his back and CT punched him a couple times for pretty much no reason from what I can remember. How are you going to get in a fight with a local skinny Frenchman that doesn't even want to hit you back? Real tough, buddy. I'm sure that did a lot to change the general French perception of Americans being rude and obnoxious.

What episode was this? I remember when CT pushed Adam and that was about it. BTW, whatever happened to Simon?

I don't remember, it's been far too long! But I remember when CT hit the guy a couple of times he kept making this obnoxious MWAH sound when he did it. Total dbag!

I remember that too, and it was quite disturbing. He seems to have a history of hitting defenseless people. Obviously a real threat would kick his ***, and he knows it.
