I have been reading up on some much anticipated movies for 2010, there seems to be some great movies hitting the theater's this year. This thread is for movies in the theater now and upcoming movies of 2010. User image
AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home.
I took my daughter to see this last night, we watched it in 3D and it was amazing. The graphics were so good, the storyline was great, and Sam Worthington is amazing in this role. I actually am going to go see it again this weekend, because the 3D was so good. For anyone who has not seen it yet, it is definitely worth it!

I am really looking forward to IronMan 2, and the new Shrek. After seeing Avatar, I am definitely going to see The Clash of the Titans!

I know, at first I thought it was just Taylor Lautner and Taylor Swift, but there are a lot of good actors in it.

Prince of Persia is awesome game and I really am excited for the movie. I want to see how they do the sands of time and rewind process.

I just Read that Tobey Maguire will not be back for SM4, and neither will the director of the first 3, Sam Raimi. I gotta say it, I have never really liked the SM movies, mostly because I just do not find Tobey Maguire believable in any way as SM. I am not quite sure what it is, but the little dance he did in 3, sealed that deal for me. I am wonder who will now take on the role?

I haven't seen it yet but all my friends who saw it said "Avatar = Ferngully in 3D after spending 1 bazillion dollahs!". I grew up on Ferngully, still have the VHS (woot!), and weirdly I have no real desire to see Avatar. I know it is supposed to be pretty and awesome and legendary and all but I'm still "meh" about shelling out $15 to see it...

Also, the only movies I really want to see out of that list are Alice and HP7: pt1. I haven't really heard much about A-Team, Clash of the Titans or Wall Street 2 but the rest of the movies I could easily do without until they are on Netflix. I'm kind of over all these sequels and remakes. Completing a series of books is fine but do I really need another Toy Story or Shrek in my life? Was the original A-Team not good enough? Blah, I just wish movie makers would take some more chances and finance scripts of original content more often.

So much word to that. Also, I just read yesterday that Spiderman 4 was NOT happening, and that they were just going to go in a different direction and reboot the series. Oh, I forgot about the book of Eli that movie looks really good. Probably going to see it this weekend. Gary Oldman generally does a good job in his movies.

Isn't Jackie Chan going to be the karate teacher? I'm personaly surprised they took this long to make a new one as if I recall Hillary Swank was in a karate kid movie as well

So much word on THAT. If I didn't like Will Smith already this gave me enough reason to SUPER DISLIKE him, since I am trying not to use 'hate' so much anymore. Really? Iron Man 2, Book of Eli, A-Team, Clash of the Titans, etc... that's all good to go A friend of mine saw a website somewhere that went through the story of Pocahontas and just changed the names to prove it was Avatar.

Haven't seen Avatars yet... The movies I'm excited to see this year are: Iron Man 2, Toy Story 3, Shrek 4, Prince of Persia, Clash of the Titans, the new Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Christoper Nolan's movie, Inception, with Leonardo DiCaprio looks interesting. I'll probably check out Legions and Book of Eli too.

I hate to be the "dark force" in the room, but not one movie mentioned so far even has me "free cable TV" interested, let alone "pay my hard earned money at the theater" interested. Of course, I am not much for "blockbusters" being they are usually inane, predictable and and over the top coy. Not to mention, 95% of the films coming out are sequels of films that I had no interest in seeing in the first place, or remakes of bad films, boring comic books etc. I look forward to hearing about more of the smaller offerings that will come out during the course of the year... Sorry for being Debbie Downer, but a solid counter point helps build discussion! :D Edit: I am looking forward to Hot tub Time Machine!

Just a note: Usually, the Studios take out their trash in January. You don't often find anything worth watching this month. To tell if a studio believes in a film, just check if they did a sneak peak in December (to make it Oscar worthy.) Otherwise, it is just being burned off. After January, Studios will again slowly roll out their top rate flicks and that builds toward the Summer season. I love Denzel as an actor, but I think Eli is a dud.

I'm going to see Leap Year at 7:15. I've seen the main actor (Matthew Goode?) in a few other films. So, I have high hopes for this one.

Yeah, you may be right the previews are really not definatively showing really anything about the movie, which actually intrigued me about it. Also it having gary Oldman and denzel made it seem at least decent. Though it could end up very well being like The road movie which I thought was going to be good after reading the book but after it got delayed the release for a year and how tough it would be to turn into a movie, it didn't live up to expectations. Movies which intrique me the wolfman with Benicio del torro, Get Him to The Greek looks like it will be so funny with the director of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the expendables is a movie I having been waiting for since the cast was announced these look like the moives that intrique me the most this year. Also the green hornet could be very interesting.

Leap Year was as romantic and adorable as I expected. There's something so stunning about Ireland. It makes me want to book a flight tomorrow. Who wouldn't love to spend the rest of her life with a beautiful rugged Irish man on the outskirts of Dublin?

I don't think anyone mentioned Predators, due out July 9th. As a Predators (and Aliens) super-fan, I'm interested to see what RR can manage on a $40M budget. I like the idea of using the suits instead of tons of CG.
