The lack of female competitors

bayday ·
I'm starting to dislike some of these voting shows, because it seems like females never do well against the male competitors. Example, two season straight of American Idol Top 5 with only 1 female. This season with So You Think You Can Dance, and even Last Comic Standing. Why are the ladies dropping like flies in these competitions? Is that the majority of voters are Females? It makes no sense to me. It still kills me that Crystal Bowersox (clearly the best last season), lost to Lee Dewyze (I like him, but he didn't deserve it).

I totally agree!!! Crystal Bowersox sounded wayyy better than Lee DeWyze. His voice was too raspy.

The bottom line is on American Idol the best person doesn't always win. I think Lee deserved the win because he connected more with his fans!

That's a reason I liked Lee, but I have to realize Crystal was far superior. It also kills me the ladies where clearly better than the guys, and yet the Top 5 had only one girl! I feel like female fans devote themselves more to their favorites versus the male watchers. Fan girls would vote 2 hours straight just because the guy "looks cute." Samething with So You Think You Can Dance. How many females actually won that show? It also suprise me because Females dominate the entertainment industry (currently).

American Idol is about more than just the best voice. It's about being an "idol". Thats where the confusion comes in. Crystal was amazing... she's not very idol like though. I'm not saying that it's not possible, just that Lee fit the package better. I don't know why men beat women on SYTYCD.. that one seems a little odd.

Yes this is true, but from the early seasons the judges stated, this is a singing competition and it shouldn't matter how a person looks. They really wanted the best vocalist to make it far in the show, and that's why it was so good. The show turned into a popularity contest instead of vocal contest. I'm still shocked someone like Aaron Kelly or Andrew Garcia lasted longer than some of the girls. I still feel like it's because female fans are more devoted.

It isn't all about looks. That plays into life though. I'm not being shallow.. and personally, don't vote for the better looking person... but the little teeny boppers do. lol That... is the problem.

A freaking huge problem. I'm kind of sick of all the good looking guys winning, I'm not really complaining about their looks though ;) Even though Adam Lambert is a guy, I still think he should have beaten out good looking Kris Allen based on talent, but then again it's not always based on talent. In the long run though it always seems other than Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson, the person who comes in first doesn't always do better in the industry.

Then again the music industry is already dominated by female singers.

LOL THANK YOU for saying it! I was going to, but felt it may be a little mean, but it's so true! Americas Got Talent actually does a better job in keeping it 10 votes per line. Just like you I did like Lee. He was the only interesting male competitor, but didn't deserve to win. Adam who should have won, lost to Kris (who was my 2nd fav only behind Allison). Yet Adam has out sold Kris. Just goes to show that there's a voting habit of teeny boppers and cougars voting for the "cute/hot" guy.
