Behind the Screen: The Island: MTV - Speculation

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

It seems to me that a few people will end up with more than one key. This suggests that maybe there will be more than 2 boats...

IDK...TJ clearly states there will be 2 boats to go to The Island.

I think its more to do with picking who they want in there boat at the end because i see both of them being on a boat....we all know that now everyone is going to be gettn on that boat so why not have each of them pick who they want....just my thoughts....either way somebody ends up with two keys (three people in one sailboat) and i can see ev ka and a male in the one we see in the preview......jb kenny and one or two other people in the other one...it would certainly hold true to all the spoilers as of now....
To shey, Ev and Johnny could indeed be picking people for their boat. Didn't think about that one. I stated in a post much earlier that 1 of the previews did infact have 3, not 4 people in the boat. It's refreshing to see that someone else have the same view. You do not necessarily need for people for a sail boat .... you can get by with as little as 2 depending on wind speed. A third person could help with the sails, but as I mentioned balance and steering is most important. Knowing this, I ask myself if I had to assemble a team for 1 of the boats based on the above statements, I'd want Dan to sail (he has military exp and is very clever when sober), Dunbar to steer - he is very strong & patient at times, and you need that, and kelly anne - she is quick, lite, and can SHIFT from 1 side of the boat to the other with minimal effect on balance to help align the sails. Having 4 people does allow for 2 people to align the sails, but this could be just as much as a disadvantage if they are working against each other. "I think we as viewers need to really ask ourselves who we would want on our boat based solely on the rules of the game and the understanding of how a sailboat works." BTW, V1man, I was the first to post this and posted this information almost a week ago ... but you abruptly slammed my notions to others which led me to believe that I was on to something. Perhaps my theory for the persons on the boat may be incorrect, but I am certain in a snippet, I saw 3 people on 1 boat ........ I also am fairly, not 100%, but fairly certain that at 1 point in the game Kenny and or Dunbar will have 2 keys in their possession ..... however, the rules state that you can only give a key away when you are voted off the island. I do not think the rules will allow someone with multiple keys that is still in the game to give a key to another player in the game.

Here's some thinking outside the box for you. Just because certain people are on a boat together doesn't mean they win/lose together.. or they are automatically a team. What if the boating is just a means to reach the island.. then all bets are off....? hmmmmmm (btw.. I totally just pulled that out of my rear. I have no idea if that's the case or not.)
JoshiK#36
Could be, Insider. However if I get a closeup photo of a raft in the near future with four people that just so happen to be Kenny, Johhny, Johanna and Paula, then it would probably be a safe assumption that they are a "team" until it's time to stab each other in the back.

Sorry V1man, I was the 1st to state that imo there will be 3 people on 1 boat, and the 1 person who I think will have 2 keys is Kenny.
I have reviewed the videotape and reversed my ruling. Some lame prize will be available at the end of the challenge season.

Ok, but a tresure chest means that 1st to claim the stake right. If I get to the island first, I'm not hanging around and play kumbaya waiting to find the treasure chest with 3 other morons. I'm taking a direction and am going to try and get to it myself, and hopefully I'm 1 of the 1st 4 there. I state this because I see the tools that are "running the game" ... and i don't want Kenny or Bananas to lead me through a maze let along trying to find something ..... unless of course it involved Johanna's panties.

Excellent thought.
SpoilerEspecially since we know two of the winners to be Johnny and Kenny. (according to the spoiler thread) They seem like the kind of guys to run off and leave their "team" behind. Right?
So what if they get to a chest first... and then two other key holders show up from another boat? There's something to mull over.

That would be a hilarious ending,
Spoilerespecially if they screwed Johanna or Paula at the end by not yelling to them once they got there. Are we sure that Kenny and Johnny are indeed 2 of the 4, or is this that of a misdirection play by Bacchus and V1?
I will say this, that this concept is good because instead of people trying to aviod the face off, they will be fighting to get into 1 especially when the keys run out. Why would I want to torture myself on an island without a key. I'd be hard pressed to either get one or get my *** back to civilization. I can see the voting system getting real messy real quick once those 8 keys are distributed.

So if
Spoilerkenny
might have 2 keys, and
Spoilerbananas
has another, then they only need 1 more to open the box?

If that's the case.. it could be possible. Do we know for sure they have two keys?

No not at all, but it would be more profitable for them if it only took 3 people to open the box! In the spoiler thread beginning, Bacchus named 2 of the 4 winners, and i believe what he says!

That's very true. :) So what if
SpoilerJB and Kenny
each have two keys? They could be the only winners. lol What if they promise to give the other members of their boat a key when they get to the Island... and then they refuse? Ok, I'm just trying to come up with the wildest scenarios possible. Thinking outisde the box is fun.

I thought that TJ said you needed to have a key to even get onto the boat.

It has been brought up by members here and Myself that some people might have more than 1 key and how that might play out. TJ said that it would take 4 keys to open the box, but never did he say 4 people. I myself think that if they were smart enough to catch on to this it would be the way to go!
I totally agree that it would be the smart way to go. If someone could come up with 4 keys.. he or she could get all the money. The problem with that is this... How easy would it be to sail to the island alone? I wouldnt' want to help anyone get there if I didn't get any of his or her money.

As I've written before, I do know who wins and have no intention of naming any of them. Bacchus named Kenny and Johnny. I have opted to neither confirm nor deny that he is correct. Only once has a spoiler I offered been wrong (Re: Tyrie) and I corrected the info as soon as I learned that I had misunderstood my sources. My technique is to ask questions of posters to see if they have examined the possible scenarios that may play out, and to occasionally point out that they are about to jump into the deep end of the pool without knowing how to swim... It's my personal version of the Socratic Method.
I'm going to love it here at vevmo .... meaningful banter, learning new words, and participating in a who dun it without the rudeness of a Speak Reality. Ok Socrates, pull me back when I get deep in the ocean with the sharks. I'm new here and do not want to be eaten alive in my first week. I do pose a question to you .... knowing the rules of the game (TJ stated that you need 4 people and 4 keys to open the chest)..... Aside from the people on the Island, which 4 people in the history of the challenges do you think would best serve to fulfill the mission of "The Island?"

Yes, we pride ourselves on all of the above!! :)

If you rewatch halfway through episode 1, TJ states that in order to open the treasure chest that you need 4 keys and 4 people. If you go to MTV.com, ep 1, close to the 21:00 minute mark. Unless the rules change, I assume that they will be 4 winners. He mentioned that there could be a maximum of 4 people on each boat. Some of us think that this will be a scavenger hunt situation once people get to the island and some also believe that there will be 1 or more persons with multiple keys.

This doesn't fit a spoiler thread, but for the moment, let's hope the forum gods indulge us... I've worked with many of the challenge people over the years and a bunch I regard as personal friends, so it's difficult for me to separate intelligent assessment from personal wishes. I have two lists, based on vastly differing assumptions. Further, my list is not arrested in time (meaning the last physical and mental state in which we saw them on a challenge -- but rather who they are today. A. Without regard for the environmental conditions (absence of food and enclosed house): 1. Mark Long (Road Rules: USA - The First Adventure) 2. Brad (Real World: San Diego) 3. Jodi (Road Rules: X-Treme) 4. Beth (Road Rules: California, aka, Real World: Los Angeles) (I arbitrarily decided to pick two men and two women) B. Keeping in play the environmental factors of excessive alcohol, low protein and calorie ingestion, and the open-to-environment living conditions: 1. Mike (Real World: Back to New York) 2. Darrell (Road Rules: Campus Crawl) 2. Tori (Road Rules: Viewer's Revenge) 3. Sarah (Road Rules: Campus Crawl)

I may, or may not, already know the outcome of the show. However, I like the mind benders. :) I'm learning from V1man... lol Although he's usually asking questions... I prefer to bring up situations that may, or may not, be possible. :) I need to go to mtv.com and rewatch TJ's speech.

I would love to see Derrick make it on to a boat. If he does get voted off, it'll be really interesting to see why he'll get voted out..since as of now, everyone on the island *seems* enjoys him. I would also think that the girls and the newbie guys would want him on their boat. I would also love to see a newbie on a boat. KA is who I'm hoping for. (I am new here..I see that this is probably in the wrong thread..Hopefully, I can get the hang of this forum sooner than later :) )

Going over what TJ said thanks to MSR, there is no mention of how many keys will be given out. I wonder IF there are only eight keys and after the 8th is given out they battle to keep theirs or take someone elses. Thus showing more than a 3 person face off. There is so much to think about!! KeyHolders: Kenny Johnny Dunbar Derrick KellyAnne Robin If I am missing anyone please add to the list, Thanks
Anonymous#56
I think you're onto something there LM. There has to be more to this challenge than this. I like the idea of 8 keys, then battling to keep your key. I wonder if there is some sort of rule that says you have to give your key to someone who doesn't already have one. If they give out more than 8 keys.. then one of two things has to be true. 1.. there is somehow more than 2 boats.. or 2... people will have to fight to earn a place on a boat. So far, it's been a walk in the park. We need to start mixing stuff up real soon.
