I was really disapointed last year when the Chineese shut down the mountain because they feared activists would interupt the Olympic tourch climb to the summit. I guess this year the Himex team (Himalyan Experience) will be using the southern approach so as to not have to deal with any unexpected changes in policy from the Chineese goverment.
Right now it looks like many of the climbers are preparing to summit and are acclimating at Camp III -24,500 ft, so I would assume there should be a summit attempt any day now depending on weather.
There is something about this show that really grabs me and I can't wait until it airs this fall!
Mount Everest is the highest mountain on Earth, as measured by the height above sea level of its summit, 8,848 metres (29,029 ft). The mountain, which is part of the Himalaya range in High Asia, is located on the border between Sagarmatha Zone, Nepal, and Tibet, China. In 1856, the Great Trigonometric Survey of India established the first published height of Everest at 29,002 ft (8,840 m), although at the time Everest was known as Peak XV. In 1865, Everest was given its official English name by the Royal Geographical Society upon recommendation of Andrew Waugh, the British Surveyor General of India at the time. Waugh was unable to propose an established local name because Nepal and Tibet were closed to foreigners at the time, although Chomolungma had been in common use by Tibetans for centuries. The highest mountain in the world attracts climbers of all levels, from well experienced mountaineers to novice climbers willing to pay substantial sums to professional mountain guides to complete a successful climb. The mountain, while not posing substantial technical climbing difficulty on the standard route (other eight-thousanders such as K2 or Nanga Parbat are much more difficult), still has many inherent dangers such as altitude sickness, weather and wind. By the end of the 2008 climbing season, there had been 4,102 ascents to the summit by about 2,700 individuals. Climbers are a significant source of tourist revenue for Nepal, whose government also requires all prospective climbers to obtain an expensive permit, costing up to $25,000 per person. Everest has claimed 210 lives, including eight who perished during a 1996 storm high on the mountain. Conditions are so difficult in the death zone that most corpses have been left where they fell. It looks like they summited just a few hours ago and are heading down the mountain now. It wouldn't hurt you guys to be interested in a show that was not all about gossip, hookups and getting drunk! ;) Ok, off to watch Deadliest catch...I am on a Disc/History kick now the majority of network shows I watch have wrapped up their 2008-2009 seasons.

If it is anything like Deadliest Catch or the Alaskan Wild show I will be hooked! I hadn't heard of it until now. Is it documentary style where they follow the climbers? I'll check my local listings to see when I can catch it?

It probably won't be on until October and as I mentioned above, they skipped a year (because their climbing permits were revoked) so it was on 2006, 2007 and season three will be this fall. It is documentary style and they follow the climbers from base camp up the mountain. Some will summit, some will not. Some will be cut before even getting an opportunity to move to the higher altitudes because they are not deemed fit enough to make the push. Much like Deadliest catch, it is all about the danger and there are always people dying, losing fingers, etc. It is one of my favorite actuality shows, if not my favorite.

Always been a fan of these types of shows, I remember the year the Eco-Challenge was done with Hayden Christensen getting lost in the Fiji jungle for 4 hours walking in circles and Timmy Beggy was part of a reality show team that eventually had to give up but somehow the Playboy team managed to finish.
