Behind the Screen: The Challenge: Rivals II - Ratings Discussion

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

And to the freakshows out there who are already worried about ratings don't look into it too much because Battle of the Exes pre-show rating was 624,000, and we all know how great that season was rating wise.

Tuesday's cable ratings were only posted this morning, so perhaps tomorrow morning they will be released.

For a split second there I thought it was saying Rivals brought in 3 million. I was like :numbness: :emmersed:

Still More Ratings Delays Categories: 1-Featured,Broadcast TV,Cable TV Written By Robert Seidman July 11th, 2013 ... Wednesday cable numbers and broadcast finals are delayed until Friday morning. We'll post them as soon as we see them. We know you are eager to see these numbers and appreciate your patience. The post-holiday weeks are always stressful for everyone who pays attention to the ratings. Hopefully everything will be caught up and back on a normal schedule sometime Friday.

Those are pretty good numbers compared to Real World: Portland and Battle of the Seasons. I just hope it doesn't drop and keeps increasing in the coming weeks.

The important part
The premiere of The Challenge: Rivals II and the premiere of The Bridge tied as the top cable original Wednesday night, with both shows earning a 0.9 adults 18-49 rating.

That's really good.
LexBlair#46
Just for comparison Seasons premiered to - 1.145M total, 0.7 A 18-49 ...and that season came off Exes(one of the highest rated seasons in the last couple of years..)
Fullback12#47
So the premiere was 1.574 or what?

Yeah, in total viewers and 0.9 in the 18-49 demo
KevinW#49
Wow this is really good especially compared to the recent Real World seasons. Hope it continues to grow.
Fullback12#50
Not bad, not bad at all. Much better from last season, I really wish this season brings in as many viewers as Exes did.

That's huge for the series. See what you can do when you actually advertise a television show MTV?
TheFeedMachi#52
Those are good ratings for the Challenge. The key will be whether it maintains, rises, or dips in the coming weeks.
DarkFights#53
For me It is very disappointing because the episode wasn't really that bad If you ask me It's better than the premiere of Rivals/Cutthroat/Exes/Seasons/FM 2/Duel 2/...

No, it is not huge. It's a good number when one compares it to recent history, and I applaud it for what it is -- a start. I know of a couple of old cast members whose episodes averaged over 2M in the smaller 18-34 demographic. That, for me, is the gold standard. Really, you call what they did "advertising?" They spend almost nothing on promotion. Imagine what the number could be if they had spent a little cash on non-mtv cable commercials. Many of those FX viewers watch The Bridge in record numbers could have been watching the challenge, if they had even known about it. I can't give MTV a free pass as quickly as you appear ready to do.

I've always wondered why the don't advertise on BET, VH1, Oxygen, etc.
jojorules#56
It does show the significance of certain castmembers and even though no substance the ct diem preview prob brought in a lot of casual viewers based on the demographic even though we all know the age range of viewers is more broad. Didnt seasons max out at like 1 million?
Sherman70#57
from what i have been seeing an reading from the past seasons, this one seems to be about the same or slightly higher than the others. The others also seem to get better as the season went on in general so hopefully that happens with this one too.

You cant deny that this can be a saving grace for the challenge. That's what I was calling huge, not the numbers. This is a lot more than MTV usually does for the challenge.
ColiesMom#59
Curiosity and lack of google skills compels me to ask. What was the average amounts of viewers for (DAH) I3 vs The Isaland vs Rivals 2?
anon454545#60
V1 I think you expect the show to get the same numbers as before dvr, online viewing, on demand, even more competition, and an outdated ratings system. Rarely anyone in the shows demographic watches the ahow the night it airs so the ratings are skewed. That is a good number.

Well we also don't know the demographic rating, which is what you say is all that matters, so we can't really decide anything yet
