Behind the Screen: The Challenge: MTV - Renewed (March 2012)

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

Yay! I'm glad they got renewed. This season was really good. :)

Thank God. I didn't know it was the most watched challenge in seven seasons!

Most watched? I could have sworn that Rivals did better. Anyways, this is cool I guess. I'm assuming they'll be renewing it one season at a time instead of multiple, if it does well.

The renewal was mentioned here at vevmo at least a week ago.

The Rivals finale was better than any episode this season but Exes never had en episode fall below 1.8 million. Only 5 episodes of Rivals were above 1.8 million and the low was at a terrible 1.357 million.

Cool beans.

Awesome news hopefully RW St. Thomas is more enjoyable than San Diego and The next Challenge will continue with the success and hopefully next season will be a team challenge I'm done with pairs challenges.

True but at least now we have certifiable and written proof for the non-believers.

For a while I've been wondering if the "non-believers" should be elsewhere.

Awesome! I'm not surprised though. Despite how horrible RW: San Diego 2011 was, BOTE was a good idea to draw in the "non-hardcore fans". Everyone loves romance, but they like it even more when ex-lovers have to reunite. So does anyone know if each (RW and the Challenge) has been renewed for 1 season only, or more?

Press release makes that pretty clear...doesn't it?

No mention of more than one season.

Have cast members already been getting availability calls?

The Zen Buddhist quandary 'What is the sound of one hand clapping?" comes to mind. Glad the RW is renewed but I wish they would cancel "The Challenges" and replace it with something else with some of the same pool since BMP very clearly is never going to attempt to re-invent that overly formulaic franchise on their own.

I love how they said unprecedented knowing fully well that the show has had multiple seasons in the span of 1 year sometimes even 3. Maybe I'm just grasping at straws but its the truth.

It's mostly PR spin fed by the selective choice of a ratings demographic to trumpet. It's what PR people do. They look for the most rosy explanation and expect the masses to buy into it.

I know right? If I was a newer viewer that would be very misleading.

I think anybody with a lick of common sense knows that "unprecedented" can refer to most any contract renewal.

Most likely a month or 2 after RW St. Thomas wraps up filming.

Happy to hear this. Would it be on television in August, or later?
Nostalgic#22
Most likely a little later.
