Behind the Screen: The Challenge: Generic Thread

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

I don't support genocide, racism, sexism, sexual harrassment, and mocking addiction and mental illness. We are not all the same. Me and Peacekeeper are about the same, that's it.

I'm sure its been asked many times, but what are some of their appearance fees? But also if it goes up as you stay longer, how is. Doea it work? By each week, or a one off if tou hit this mark?

It's a two level system...you get paid for each week you are on the show and you have an appearence fee based on what you bring to the show.  The fees are different for everyone (this is also how Celebrity Big Brother UK) worked.  Part of why we have mercenaries is to have pay the stars to be on the show but not compete.  But we don't know what each person is paid or what the budget each season is.

UKLover1#69796

On ChallengeTea911 tiktok there are clips of Jordan talking about it. He basically said the weekly stipend ranges from $1k to $3k. But no one ever talks about what their appearance fee is which I imagine varies greatly from player to player.

When/how did Devin get a reputation for being great at puzzles? I saw him flop on a puzzle in elimination on Double Agents, and then he really struggled with a puzzle against Emanuel in Spies, Lies, & Allies. Then in the final for SL&A he wasn't one of the first two to complete the puzzle on checkpoint 1.

Whatever final it was...he memorized the full code by himself but great puzzle people rarely prove it.  It's just everyone thinks they're good at puzzles.

Ok thanks. Yeah that was the last part of SL&A where he memorized a 20 number code. Is memorizing a code the same as a puzzle? In my mind memory things (which is also what his elimination over Bananas was) are different from solving a puzzle. Maybe some people conflate them and that's part of his reputation.

Also, Kaycee was actually kind of a flop overall in the SL&A final. She got fortunate to face Nany in that final elimination and to then get to choose CT as her final partner. Tori and Emy got screwed to be honest.

He'll hang with Mark and maybe try to get a three way going with Nany and Kaycee

FromTheNorth#69802

I thought I heard for one of those that the reality stars didn't even go. They just like video chatted with the guests or something like that

I randomly got curious to rewatch the premiere of 29: Invasion of the Champions. Idk what changed about the editing but the introduction of the players made me so excited to watch as if it was the first time. The cast was so good and I miss watching people grow up for 4 months on the real world and debuting on the challenge.

I wonder why LaToya thought it was okay to sit on Tony's **** knowing he had a baby momma/gf expecting and he didn't even flinch while she sat on him. But I don't think he got a *****. He's not into melanated folks clearly.

timster3#69808

So yeah invasion of the champions may be one of the best seasons. At the time I remember it felt like the format was rushed and the season ended super fast. It had the same amount of episodes as Rivals 3 which was dragged out to hell and back so idk. Very solid season and cast that wraps up nicely.

kvm1977#69809

Invasion was so boring before the vets arrived---it was only 3 episodes

The format really hurt Invasion--the missions were essentially meaningless--it should have been Champ vs Challenger in the eliminations.

agreed with your second statment don't call it invasion if the champions have to go against each other. the only upside was that we did get to see some good eliminations.

i think the drama between the challengers was interesting though.

Fair enough--to each their own.   The whole Tony/Nicole vs. Sylvia thing didn't do anything for me.    Which was basically all the drama because it essentially created the LL vs the others.  Maybe I need to rewatch it--maybe it seemed boring because it was like "qualifying rounds" of a tennis tournament.  It was just for the right to even be on the show IMO
