Behind the Screen: Boston Med - ABC

Big Brother remains one of the most-watched summer staples in American television, with its unique format of 24/7 live feeds giving superfans an unmatched window into the social dynamics of the game.

The show's blend of strategic gameplay, showmances, and blindsides has fueled one of the most dedicated online fanbases in reality TV — and Vevmo has been at the center of that conversation for years.

I plan on watching this tonight too, it looks pretty decent judging from the promo's I have seen...

I really enjoyed last summer's "real life medical drama", Hopkins. If anyone here hasn't seen that one, it's great...

Boston Med - ABC

Bacchus ·
I'm in serious need of quality reality television programming these days so I am going to tune into Boston Med tonight (ABC at 10PM ET) and see if it can fill that itch until at least Big Brother comes along in July. Early episode reviews look to be good and now that just about everything has been done that can be done with scripted medical dramas, I guess it is time they kick it up a notch and go with the real thing. Boston Med picks up where the Peabody Award-winning Hopkins left off, going even deeper into the lives of caregivers and the cutting edge medical cases they confront inside the walls of America's top hospitals. In this original eight-hour series, the unforgettable stories of doctors, nurses and patients are adeptly woven to give each hour the pace and intensity of a drama. Whether it's the young resident in crisis doubting that she's good enough to become a Harvard-trained doctor, or the deployed soldier's pregnant wife praying for a miracle surgery to save her baby, Boston Med is sure to touch your heart. Filmed over four months at Massachusetts General, Brigham and Women's, and Children's Hospital Boston, this powerfully real series breaks new ground in the documentary landscape. Meet the charismatic Hollywood producer before either he or the filmmakers realize that, through a twist of fate, his face will be transplanted onto a Vietnam veteran badly scarred in an accident. The second face transplant performed in this country and the first anywhere to be so extensively filmed, this operation involved two dozen surgeons and up to a hundred additional doctors and nurses. It's a stunning example of both the high caliber medicine and the unprecedented and unique access captured by the filmmakers in Boston Med.

I really enjoyed last summer's "real life medical drama", Hopkins. If anyone here hasn't seen that one, it's great. Very compelling stories and lots of interesting information. I expect the same type of format for this program. I'll be watching.

I'm just getting started with this, but I can tell right away it is a show that appeals to me. They are doing a great job of interweaving reality with personalities and that makes for good TV.

This is one of my favorite shows. It is reality tv, but the stakes are life and death. Tonight's episode with the baby that needed heart surgery, was really hard to watch. When the Attending said in a berating tone after the fact to the doctor that performed the surgery (paraphrasing) "Is there any way the lungs could be connected to the heart correctly, being you ****ed up and it is obvious you ****ed up?" - and then to see the doctors reaction...and then to get the parents response. This isn't, "You screwed up the mission." This is, you probably killed someone and the parents are in the waiting room. I am a bit biased about this show as they have amazing B-Roll of Boston. Best I have ever seen for a reality show as far as showcasing the base city. Bias aside, it is a well designed reality show with real emotion and touching weekly stories.

No. Not sure where I would be able to watch it. I assume it is in the same vein as Boston Med? I wouldn't know where to watch it but I enjoy this type of show so I would if I could find it.

Yeah, it was like Boston Med, but 2008 I think. Same format, great stories (but at Johns Hopkins). I know you can buy it on DVD so...maybe Netflix?

After doing some research, this is the follow up to Hopkins. This time, they have more hospitals, being they are all owned by the same management group (and Boston is a city of world class Hospitals.) I'll find it and check it out.

Oh man the Baby Michael story was so sad and scary. I just kept thinking... "They wouldn't show him this much if he actually died...would they?"... But having seen shows similar to this, I knew that it was a possibility. I was right there with the parents hoping and hoping. And then the raw emotion on the Dr.'s face when he realized what he did....man, that was intense. I'm SOOO glad they were able to fix him and that Michael got to go home!! *whew* Was almost stressful to watch so I'm glad it had a happy ending lol. Also, I wasn't surprised in the least when the gal Dr. at the end said her and her boyfriend had broken up. Shoot man, he probably just wanted his balls back...

On this type of show anything can happen. Last week was really sad when the patient looking for a new heart went into cardiac arrest right as the doctors were telling the family that he was past the point of receiving a transplant. Actually, I am quite surprised that they show mistakes that the doctors make in every episode. It just looks like one giant lawsuit waiting to happen.

He seemed like a really nice guy, but I'm guessing one day he finally just snapped... (And who wouldn't with her domineering persona!) I was laughing when she had him in the back seat of the car and wouldn't let him drive, lol. Pretty, intelligent girl - but a major control freak.
