Behind the Screen: The Bachelor 13: Jason Mesnick

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

Yes this is the new one Jason was the runner up on the latest edition of the Bachelorette! He is a single father and this is the first time in Bachelor history that the bachelor has a son. I will post a pic of his little boy as well, he is so adorable. I am looking very forward to this edition, it airs January 5th on ABC.

I haven't watched this show in YEARS (Bob Guiney ruined it for me lol), but it is nice to see them taking a somewhat different approach w/ the single dad. Hopefully it will be a good thing and they won't exploit the young boy in all of this. Then again, there's not much on in January so maybe I'll check it out. ;)

Can you believe a mother would just take off and leave such an adorable child?

Not the whole one, but I have a very reliable sleuther that has agreed to help me put in what we need for a good backstory. If you can believe it they "think" they already have it figured out who he chose. I will save that for a later date and until I am 100% positive it is the truth!

Ooooh how awesome, good to know! ;) Well for the sake of the boy I REALLY hope whoever it is it lasts this time!

The new season of The Bachelor doesn’t begin airing until Jan. 5, but Jason Mesnick tells PEOPLE exclusively that he did find love on ABC’s reality dating series. “I’m engaged!” Mesnick says. “I found exactly what I was hoping for, what I was looking for. I’m completely in love.” Fans will be excited for the 32-year-old Seattle single dad, whose marriage proposal to DeAnna Pappas was thwarted in July on the season finale of The Bachelorette. Instead, Pappas chose professional snowboarder Jesse Csincsak. “I really did fall in love with DeAnna,” he says, adding that when he heard she and Csincsak split in November, “I was shocked. I thought they were going to make it.” An outpouring of support from fans and family helped convince the divorced Mesnick to take another chance at finding love in front of the cameras. “I don’t want to be by myself,” Mesnick says. “I’m ready for a relationship and a family.” That family includes Ty, Mesnick’s 3-year-old son from his first marriage. Mesnick says that the woman of his dreams has to understand that falling in love with him also means connecting with Ty. “I was not looking for a mom,” he says. “I was looking for a partner for me and a mentor and a friend to Ty.” Mission accomplished: Mesnick says he’s still in awe of how his life has changed in the past year. “I just really believed this can happen to me,” he says, smiling. “I cannot believe it’s this great!”

What, the fact that he ended up marrying a soap star instead? I didn't even know that this was the guy from The Bachlorette...I have never seen a full season of any of the shows, but this one seems to have promise. I think I will check it out.

LoL no, just him being on the show in general (before he was known for marrying Greenlee)....I just got really annoyed by watching him I guess. No reason in particular...

I was annoyed by the fact that he married her (greenlee got on my nerves, LOL)...it was like he used the show to bag a female in the industry, LOL. I never even watched the show, but I knew who he was.

Yeah Bob was gross, and not attractive at all! Jason on the other hand is a very attractive man!

I'm not a fan of Mr. Mesnick. He is too much a product of "central casting" for me. I hope he has found what he was seeking and that it works for him.

Can you tell those of us not in the know what "central casting" means? (I know I could probably Google it but in case others wanted to know :o) EDIT: Jinx, Stacee!

Really V? He seems like a truly genuine person, but once again that could be the edit. Maybe if you know him, you could get him to post here every now and then. Have you heard of anything from this season, I heard it will be a tearjerker!

Here is one major reference They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969) Rocky: I may not know a winner when I see one, but I sure as hell can spot a loser. Rocky: My father never made it out of the fourth grade. He knew people. But he didn't know his *** from his elbow. You know what he was? He was a faith healer. I used to travel the circut with him. I was the one he healed. I was the shill, to set the crowd up. "Walk, my boy. When I lay my hands on you, you will walk." You will walk. Sodden old *******. He thought it was him they believed in, but it was me. Rocky: Here they are again, folks! These wonderful, wonderful kids! Still struggling! Still hoping! As the clock of fate ticks away, the dance of destiny continues! The marathon goes on, and on, and on! HOW LONG CAN THEY LAST! Alice: Somebody screamed. Rocky: That was you, Alice. Policeman: Why'd you do it, kid? Robert: Because she asked me to. Policeman: Obliging *******. Is that the only reason you got, kid? Robert: They shoot horses, don't they? [repeated line] Rocky: Yowza! Yowza! Yowza! Rocky: It isn't a contest. It's a show. Gloria Beatty: Maybe it's just the whole world is like central casting. They got it all rigged before you ever show up. Nurse: Can I get you something for your feet? Gloria Beatty: How about a saw. *** In the late 1920's, Central Casting was the office in the major studios where a producer or director would call to have a role filled by stereotype... "Send me two Irish cops for tomorrow's shoot on set 22." (Translation: "Send me two guys in their 40s who look like they just walked in two hours later after a bender. Make sure they are three sizes too hib for their uniforms." *** In this context, I mean that he is too perfect -- thus a product of the stereotype that the central casting office would send if asked to give the perfect bachelor to touch the hearts of millions of women in the prime show demographic -- and, "Oh, yeah, send over a kid too. Make him cute!"

Well he does fit that demographic perfectly, but I thought he was chosen because of his experience with Deanna.

Oh yeah I got that same vibe V1...now that you explained it I can put a name to it. But that was before I knew he was on the Bachlorette...even so, he does seem perfect for the show so far into it...throwing a kid in the mix makes good teary TV, LOL.

Much to my husband's dismay, I watch this show religiously. Jason was a bit generic, but as a viewer (and guilible one at that), I was willing to overlook that after the hometown dates when Jason saw Ty for the first time since leaving for the show- Ty was running so fast for his daddy and Jason bends down to hug him and they both fall down on the ground hugging. That moment won me over for Jason.

I can appreciate your perspective, however, a few of the women from across the seasons have been worth knowing. A couple have become great friends. Some really are great fans of the hot tub experience. User image User image Tina Panas (Tina Fabulous)

The problem is there is no reality here with the majority of the matches ending before the show even airs. It is a female fantasy show, nothing more.
Some really are great fans of the hot tub experience.
Which is what I am saying. They get on the show to become reality stars, not wives or long term love interests. The premise is either flawed or disingenuous. I am sure they are good people and by no means do I mean to discount the contestants. However, the show is an overproduced mess that attempts to leverage itself with the unrequited dreams of the target audience - and in the end no unions are formed beyond maybe a one night stand here and there. Personally, I'd rather watch a showmance on Big Brother. At least they are not being forced to like each other. (Ok, I'll run along now with my bad vibe!)
