Behind the Screen: American Idol Season 9 - Discussion

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

Although I will admit, it was a feel good story as just about all that we see in full are... The reality is the people we see in full focus now, have nothing to do with the next American Idol.

No, definitely not Hollywood material. I'm kind of watching.

I'm just dying for something to watch. Waiting for February. Switching back and forth between the Celtics and Idol. Probably going to watch Human Target next, even though I was not that impressed with the premiere. My TV outlook is rough.

The Jersey Shore has invaded...whatever city this is!
molds13#68
Oh my God, they actually are from Jersey.

Simon had the sisters right. The sister in yellow was horrible.

Not as bad as this guy...what kind of cocktail do you think he's on? "I'm trippin, I'm trippin"...yes, you definitely are...but on what?

They took him out in cuffs. Do Idol producers drama much? Clearly catch and release. I doubt he did anything that warranted being arrested.
andrewsz1991#73
No I thought that was a bit much too. They could've just escorted him out. But we don't know what happened behind the set when there was that thud.

You mean when six guys twice his size landed on him? Whoops! haha.

Bacchus, Pixar short films are on ABC Family if all else fails :)

I'm going to do a little raining on your parade, and then I'm going to back away calmly and quietly into the night =) American Idol has NOT produced 8 stars. They've produced 3 maybe. Tops. Kelly, Clay and Hudson. And she didn't even win. And why didn't she win? Because America is stupid! At least the American Idol viewership. (It's also debatable as to whether or not 'Dreamgirls' made her, but whatever..). These idols are so blown out of proportion. They release records that barely sell! Where are the millions and millions of viewers when albums are released? How many copies Taylor Hicks sell? Fantasia? Ruben...? Pop culture in America is in one ear and out the other, and it's just one of many reasons why this show doesn't matter. Run, Simon! RUUUUN! I mean no harm...I just like a little debate is all ;)
andrewsz1991#77
They've produced way more than that. many people that have been on American Idol have become stars in many ways. Fantasia has her own reality show. She sold a lot of records right when it came out and she performed on broadway. Carrie Underwood is ruling the charts in the country scene. Jordin Sparks is very popular. Kris Allen's single is getting solid airplay. Daughtry is huge and David Cook had many hits. There have been more also. American Idol does a great job of getting people out there.

I agree fully although I'm relatively new to Idol - third season for me. I guess that makes me impartial because I can't name winners beyond who you mentioned. I don't even know the guy that won last year (all I know it was the guy that should not have won based on the net vibe.) Kelly Clarkson is the name that the lead character in 40 year old virgin yells out when he is having his chest hair ripped out. That is all I know about her. Clay Aiken is know for being gay, but hiding it - but then coming out. I've never heard a song of his on the radio. Don't know anything beyond that. Jennifer Hudson was in Dream girls which I never saw, although I think I heard her sing once at the Oscars. She seems talented, but obscure... There is no such thing as "An American Idol" - rather it is the drama that leads up to a "crowning" which makes good TV. No sane person actually thinks that the product of this show will be high level musical talent.
RockSteadyVybes#80
You're right. I'll give ya Carrie. And Daughtry too...if I have to! ;) I actually am a little intrigued by Simon bringing X-Factor over to America. That I might tune into, at least to start!
OtherPplsDrama#81
Yes! Daughtry for sure!!! *swoon*

Yeah and I think her whole family was murdered, maybe you saw that on the news at some point. I could be confusing her with someone else though.. and that has nothing to do with her career or american idol.. but yeah just thought id throw it out there lol.

It wasn't her entire family, but it was her mother, brother, and nephew.

I just caught the end of this, but the very last guy they showed that sang "Trouble" was REALLY good. I don't see him making it far "popularity" wise, but he's got a great voice.
andrewsz1991#86
hahaha Skii Boo Ski has been arrested many times for coke and meth possesion. according to tmz and votefortheworst. he's been arrested at least three times.

Also, if anyone views the top 24 spoilered a couples days ago, it has changed a little bit and there are a decent amount of uncertainties.
Spoiler Ben Honeycutt probably did not make it since no one can get confirmation. Mike Lynche's family may of got him disqualified and someone named Paige Davis is in the top 24
andrewsz1991#88
Yeah I heard but the
SpoilerBen Honeycutt
thing is not a hundred percent. They're just going on the fact htat his videos are still up.
DScott#89
Yeah I know, I hope
SpoilerBen Honeycutt makes it, I actually have been watching his videos since way before he started being mentioned in the American idol spoilers
DScott#90
New Top 24 People
SpoilerDefinitely remove Ben Honeycutt, put in Todrick Hall (the scam artist) Jermaine Sellers may not have made it, It may be Jermaine Purifory
Bacchus#91
