Behind the Screen: American Idol Season 9 - Discussion

For over two decades, MTV's The Challenge has been the proving ground where reality TV's fiercest competitors come to cement their legacies. What started as a Real World/Road Rules spinoff has evolved into one of the most physically and mentally demanding competition series on television.

The franchise's expansion — with spinoffs in the USA, UK, Argentina, and Australia — speaks to a global appetite for the brand of cutthroat competition and alliance-driven gameplay that Vevmo's community has been tracking since 2007.

I really thought Crystal would win, but I'm fine with Lee too. I loved seeing all the old Idol winnerss (sans David Cook) onstage again, and all the other random Idols...

I really thought Crystal would win, but I'm fine with Lee too. I loved seeing all the old Idol winnerss (sans David Cook) onstage again, and all the other random Idols. That was cool. Paula looked great, but she is still crazy. I miss her. I also loved Christina Aguilera, Alanis, Joe Cocker, Bret Michaels, and Hall and Oates! Also, I only half watched this season, but wasn't Paige the one that everybody thought was absolutely horrible? Because I thought she sounded awesome during "Fighter".

She had a rough week then the next week she came down with laryngitis and her voice was shot. It was just painful to listen to knowing she couldn't really help sounding that bad. It was nice to have her back with her voice better and see again why the judges had such confidence in her to begin with.

Crystal suffered from the Adam Lamber curse. She was the fron runner all the way to the end and then lost.. People got sick of her just like they did Adam!

I stopped watching well back into the season (as did many people.) It was the worst rated season since the premiere season (before people really knew about it and it had that wonky format.) With Simon gone, this show is dead as a ratings superstar. It will do well, and much better than most - but its days are numbered. The talent was horrible this year. Horrible. I can't see either of the finalists ever amounting to anything beyond glorified backup singers with cameos in B spoof movies, as themselves. Feel free to pull this post up and prove me wrong some day in the future...

I think Casey has a good chance to do better than either of the Final 2, provided he pairs up with a good band ala Daughtry and doesn't get sucked into the "studio environment" side of things.

I agree 100%. Casey would be amazing with the right band, he is a great guitar player and has a nice voice.

I liked Ellen a lot, but I'm kind of glad she's gone. She always told them nice things. I'm hoping they bring in some mean judges :D

I liked Ellen. I always agreed with everything she said. Plus, she was comic relief. :(

Kara DioGuardi -- Out at 'American Idol' | TMZ.com
We're told the show will be going back to a three-judge format and assuming all deals are finalized, the judge's panel will consist of Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.
So now Randy is the only judge left and they are replacing them with JLo and Steven Tyler? Oy vey. As much as I love me some Aerosmith, hasn't Steven been in a pretty public downward spiral lately and been acting all crazy-like? And JLo. Ugh. That's like getting everything that was annoying about Kara and wrapping it up in Ryan Seacrest's massive ego. No way will I tune into American Idol next season.

Wow, Simon, Kara, AND Ellen are leaving...? Bye bye, American Idol.

You really think J-LO is that bad? I mean its not like its the travesty that is Beyonce.

Yes I really do. I have never been a Lopez fan and I think she will be a total snooze as a judge. As much as I dislike Beyonce at least she is much more relevant.

SOOO When does X-factor start?? It would be great if Simon, Paula, and Randy all do it!
