Behind the Screen: The Amazing Race 22: Episode Discussion

The Amazing Race pioneered the global competition format, sending teams across continents in a sprint that tests relationships, navigation, and nerves under extreme pressure.

The Emmy-winning series has maintained its quality across decades by constantly finding new routes, challenges, and casting that keeps the race feeling fresh and unpredictable.

I haven't even seen any commercials for this season. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint...

Just saw one. Seriously, three teams will quit in the first episode? PLEASE GET PEOPLE WHO WANT TO BE ON THIS SHOW INSTEAD OF PEOPLE WHO JUST WANT TO BE ON TV.

Saying they are delivery men is kinda true...

Joey may be the most annoying person I've ever seen on a reality show. And that says a lot

That's I annoying, I really hope the blod part isnt true!! This sand thing is a lot more difficult than I thought it would be. Like the cast a lot this time around, but I was also a fan of the cast from last season so... Favorite Teams so far in no order: Married couple with the *****y wife Father/Son combo Twins The couple that got first The country bumpkins The token blonde pair Asian woman friends

I like the teams that finished 1-2-3. I've always had a soft spot for hockey players...

I like the team that finished first, the hockey guys, the blondes and the Asian women. Of course, the only team I can't stand so far is Joey & his partner. Not a big fan of the newly wed team either. I think this is a dumb idea by the blondes.
kvm1977#10
Well, the firefighters are never going to live that down
Lola88#11
Ugh at the hockey players, typical boring alphas that will likely win the game. I liked the roller derby girls, the blondes, the unfriendly newlyweds, and the Asian girls.

I loved the sandcastle roadblock and the fact that the route from there to the mat did not involve any taxis. I haven't formed any strong opinions about the cast as of yet and though the first episode was actually quite good. Of course, I say that almost every season and then reality comes crashing down a few episodes later.

I didn't like how misleading the commercial I saw was. Three teams did not quit. Three teams (stupidly) gave up knowing that there was still a chance at making it to the mat first. It looked like half of the teams weren't digging deep enough so some probably passed up a clue in the midst of their search.

Stupid for the firefighters, not for the blondes or newlyweds

That's what I was thinking when I was watching it. The clue actually looked quite deep in the sand whereas most of them were just knocking down the sandcastle. And was it just me or was anyone else constantly singing "Sandcastles in the Sand" when watching the episode?

I was planning on watching tonight, but the Red Carpet was too alluring. Till tomorrow!

It was an alright episode... The twins are just feeding the stereotype... if you are going to go on TAR... learn to swim!!!! There is ALWAYS at least one challenge requiring swimming My fav team the father and son came second but the father may have ruptured his achilles tendon!! NO!! That sucks sooo much Not a fan of the team with the express passes... guy comes off as shady and ******* (you care more about the passes than you do the guy that just got hurt) Bora Bora is so nice!! I want to go there sooo much :D Great location to start the season.

While I didn't watch last night, I will be tuning in this season. I subscribe to Meghan's YouTube channel. She's adorable.

Why is it my favorite team is always in dire straights before the show even gets rolling? I really like the father/son cancer survivor team but the prognosis is grim.

I know right?? Fortunately they are still allowed to compete, but they will definitely have a hard set back with him on crutches. GAH I love them so much... such a terrible situation they were put in.

Agreed. They were one of my favorites to start but it's not looking good for them.
202mitch#23
Well they are in the lead to the pit stop because they used their express pass... I hope they stay around for a little more. Wouldn't it be awesome if they somehow miraculously still won the whole race? I can't see it happening.. but that would be a story haha I don't know who else to root for now though :(
202mitch#24
NO!! They need to keep going!! Continuation legs suck!! Especially if you just tore your achilles tendon lol And can I just say this season they are going to all the places I've ever wanted to go to... Bora Bora, New Zealand, Maui... such beautiful places!

Yikes! Continuation! They should just call it a race. As you've said, they've seen some of the most beautiful places on earth and can take a trip to Bangkok 6 months down the road after he is recovered - on Travelocity. Not that bad, really. As for who else to root for, I am at a loss right now. I'll have to make that determination next week.
202mitch#26
Dave and Connor are easily the best Amazing Race team EVER... I have never rooted so hard for a team in my life. I love that they aren't giving up.. true champions.. no matter what place they come in!
kvm1977#27
Jessica & John are idiots...well John is
bgstl77#28
And there's the TAR equivalent of getting voted out with the immunity idol.
Bacchus#29
The second half of the UNC v. KU game just started and they have 20 minutes to play 20 minutes of basketball. No fouls, no timeouts, no clock stoppage? *sigh* Looks like TAR is going to be running late as usual.
Bacchus#30
And we are only running 46 minutes behind. I'm guessing no one saw that one coming. So now the big decision...watch TAR tonight or skip right to The Walking Dead.

Tough choice indeed. I might go with TWD. Amazing Race has been kind of boring this season.
