ABC's True Beauty, Truly Awful.

After getting sucked into watching The Bachelor last night, my TV stayed tuned to ABC (it was a slow night) and I decided to watch True Beauty (solely for the train wreck factor.) It was the worst reality show I have ever seen - and I have seen plenty. Heck, I openly watch bad reality shows quite often. Welcome to the Parker, The Next Food Network Star, Age of Love (OK, I am really busted here) - but this had a head above the rest in the insufferable cast and even worse hosting department. I sat horrified, not at the self involvement of the "beauties" bestowed upon us, but rather at the cutesy cut shots to Vanessa Minnillo which were constantly over the top and utterly superfluous. As for Cheryl Tiegs, sure I had a poster of her on my wall when I was 10, but lets just say I wouldn't have one of her current incarnation and beyond her looks she brings nothing to the table accept an awkward self righteous stare (I don't have much to add about Nolé Marin being he hardly spoke. He was a smiling ghost.) Suffice it to say, I will not be watching next week. My faith in reality shows (which I am an admitted addict) has surreptitiously dropped overnight from a 75%+ positive to - 7. True Beauty is a series that is impossible to get into being there is no one to root for. The entire cast is made up of self loving idiots who have not even the slightest of redeeming qualities and the setups production uses to test their "inner beauty" are about as absurd as the premise itself. You should have watched Mommas' Boys on NBC instead. At least on this show we are supposed to find one of the moms to be racist, so you can really feel righteous about hating someone on reality TV. Heck the producers even contacted the police in her hometown to warn them of possible threats to her from viewers before the first episode aired. The show is the first one produced by Ryan Seacrest's new company. And, if there were no other reason to watch, the current Penthouse Pet of the Year, Erica Ellyson, is still on the show and so far no one knows her history. User image
